Really wierd; Last time I was trying to diet I was eating a strict diet of the same foods and exactly the same caloires every day. One weekend I said fuck it I wanted real food. I eat everything possible starting on thursday and did not stop till late sunday night. I mean pizza, twinkies, hohos, beer, pretzles, salted peanuts. I even eat taco bell three time on sunday(it is right around the corner from my house) Well on monday morning I went to the scale. I really did not want to get on but I did. the results where I lost 5 POUNDS. I am just curious WHAT THE FUCK?
Any ideas? I workouts during the weeekend where just like anyother day. I eat a ton more calories then I should have and drop 5 pounds this I dont understand.

why do people tihnk pizza is so bad? Is it the saturated fat or what? I made pizza a big part of my diet, eating one every other day. Not only did my strangth go up but i got bigger faster and didn't get any excess fat. Go to ronniecolman.com and the first thing you'll see is a huge picture with him eating a big piece of pizza. Pizza's great and anyone wantin to add strength and mass should be eating it.

I think people think pizza is bad because:

saturated fat and cholesterol in cheese and meat toppings
high sodium in cheese, sauce, meat toppings
white flour in crust

all of this is compounded by the fact that pizzas have multiple servings (aside from 'personal pans'), which encourages people to eat more than they might otherwise. The whole 'supersize' phenomenon.

I like pizza, too! But it can be hard on folks' bodies for a lot of reasons. Personally, it makes my acid reflux act up. OUCH!

I had this same exact question in another thread, and from what i heard, this really seems to be the case!! :eek2:

Now i will be the first to admit that I have been eating "healthy" and clean for years, and beleive it is the best way generally to go. Im into strength training only (PL) so not too concerned with body fat and all the BB stuff.
But HOW can this "junk food, fast food", with all the years of saying its "bad" for you, make you Stronger and in some cases not even gain much weight?? :alien:

I prob could eat pizza everyday and not gain much weight anyways since i'm pretty thin now and have a fast metabolizm, but was always concerned that it was bad and would prob make me weaker or fatter or whatever???

But my main question is Can anyone try to reason why these junk foods seem to make people stronger? This is not the first time I have heard this? Also, from the poeple I heard this from, it did not really seem to be the cal's since they were getting the same from their prev meals! I thought this was the "simple" answer to all of this but they were getting plenty of fat too? Anyone ....

I just know that I am stronger when I eat fatty foods...and foods with a lot of carbs. Overeating will make me stronger...for sure.

To be strong like bull. . . eat bull, or cow, or pig. Nutrition is so highly overrated for strength sports it is unreal. The GNC's and MetRx's of the world have brainwashed people for years in an effort to make a shitload of money, which they have been very successful doing just that.

Other than to control bodyweight for weight classes, I eat whatever is in front of me. I eat a lot, and I eat often, because I am hungry often. Today for example, I had a glass of milk and pop tarts for breakfast, a plate of spaghetti with ground hamburger at 11:00, a piece of apple pie at 2:30, a bag of chex mix on the drive home at 5:30, 4 beef soft tacos for dinner, and I will have a bowl of frosted mini wheats before I go to bed. That is a bit more junk food and less protein than usual, but I feel great. Tommorrow, I will eat whatever presents itself. I think if I ate chicken breasts and rice cakes and salad all the time, I would waste away down to the long forgotten land of the sub 200's.

Eat what you want. If you want to get bigger, eat more, if you want to get smaller, eat less. It is not much more complicated than that.

I agree with what most of these guys are saying.

I don't think it is the junk food that is making them strong, it is the extra cals. Who wants to eat twice as many chicken breasts and bowls of plain oats when you can eat junk that is way more calorie-dense?? If bodyfat is not your main concern, I'd say get your protein and some good stuff, but don't be afraid to eat something if you want it. I'd shoot myself if I had to be super-strict about everything I ate.

I constantly read that insulin is anabolic. Or that some BBers take insulin to aid in muscle growth.

Perhaps eating junk food, like candy bars and crap give good insulin spikes and thus cause better strength gains?

I did the same thing over spring break. I didn't train for the entire week and I ate everything in sight. Most notably I ate 1/2 gallon of ice cream everyday plus I drank like a fish. At the end of the week I was down 7 pounds.
