wuts the big difference, i heard sucralose is made from sugar and aspertame is totally synthetic.

any opinions?

Aspartame is a compound consisting of 2 protein components, aspartic acid and phenylalanine as well as a small amount of methanol. Both protein components are found in nature in protein foods such as meats, grains and dairy products. Methanol is found in the body as well as fruit and vegetables juices. Aspartame is digested like other proteins by the body, breaks down to its beginning components and is absorbed into the blood like food components. Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than sugar AND When heated it breaks down into its individual components causing a loss of sweetness. Sucralose (Splenda) is a chlorocarbon. The chlorocarbons have long been known for causing organ, genetic, and reproductive damage. It should be no surprise, therefore, that the testing of sucralose reveals that it can cause up to 40 percent shrinkage of the thymus: a gland that is the very foundation of our immune system. Sucralose also causes swelling of the liver and kidneys, and CALCIFICATION of the kidney. Sucralose is made from sugar, but is derived from sucrose through a process that selectively substitutes three atoms of chlorine for three hydrogen-oxygen groups on the sucrose molecule. However, sucralose is not as dangerous as aspartame. Also, splenda is 600x sweeter than sugar.

*I took this directly out of a hand out I got in class last semester. We had a HUGE lecture on artificial sweeteners.

Sucralose can do all that, and its still safer than aspartame?! What on earth does aspartame do to us, then???

Aspartame has also been shown to slow weight loss in some ppl. I don't know about the other stuff, but your best to avoid it all.
