Anyone here ever have a hernia?

I'm fairly sure I have an inguinal hernia (hernia of the groin). The hernia doesn't hurt, but I understand that a hernia almost always only worsens and that the probability of complications increases with the time a hernia is left untreated. Despite working very hard and, I believe, intelligently, I have not been able to afford medical insurance and I'm struggling financially in other ways, too. I seek suggestions. Thank you.

This is probably the wrong way to handle it but here's what happened to me:

I was doing seated rows with a lot of weight and I literally felt something pop out of me near my groin on my inguinal crease. It really freaked me out and as soon as I let go of the weight it popped back in.

Never got it checked out and haven't had a problem since it happened five years ago.

Maybe it worked out for me because it didn't stay out and immediately popped back in on its own. I favored that area for a long time afterwards to keep it from happening again.

For that type of hernia, I believe you can only have surgery to fix it. I'm not sure if you're aware, but all a hernia is is a bulging of a piece of the intestine through a weakened part of the abdominal muscle, in this case its showing, i'm assuming in your groin and probably worse when you cough or sneeze. It sounds serious, but the biggest complication of a hernia is strangulation of a piece of intestine when it gets stuck in the hernia but that is rare, especially in adults. Most hernia surgery is elective. Plz dont go by my advice, go by ur doctors because he may have more reasons as to why he wishes you to have the hernia repaired. However, most of the time hernia repairs is an elective surgery and I haven't encounted a patient who had a serious complication from the hernia itself. The surgery itself can keep you out of any time of serious activity for 6-12 weeks post op. Hernia in that region can cause a slight chance of sexual dysfunction as well.
What is the symptoms ur experiencing? Does the lump or bulge move? Hurt? Pop out more after lifting heavy weights? Do you get a feeling of tugging or pressure in the groin? Can you push the hernia back into place when it's popped out? Reasons I'm asking is cause I want you to be completely sure that is a hernia and not something else more serious. Any lump that is kind of rubbery and can be moved around usually is benign. If possibly I would see a doctor just to make sure.

^^^ what naughty said!

You should get a referral to a respectable surgeon to check it out and have it confirmed.

I have several minor hernias. So far the Doc has said nothing about fixing them. At times, one may get squeezed just right and cause major localized pain, but it goes away. If you are not actually bulging and there is minimal pain, leave it alone. If it gets worse, or restricts you, get it checked to be sure nothing serious will happen. Sucks to wake up in the middle of the night when it is hurting.

This must get examined and repaired if required. Try the ER if you can't find the funds or have no health care.

The area will be surgically repaired using either a mess screen between the intestine and the muscle wall ... or .... the break in the wall will be sutured. The latter is the best opition.

6-8 weeks recovery.

Thanks for your concern and advice. I have almost zero pain from this, physically. I believe that suffering can build compassion, and now, as a result of this, I've more compassion for others who work hard and still suffer various setbacks, including lack of health care or health care coverage.

I totally agree with Broly. I have had a slight hernia for roughly 18 years. It hasn't totally torn. Every once in awhile I will feel a slight pain. I just ease up on the straining for awhile and it subsides.
