for the past 2 years i've had the hardest time ever sleeping.. i can't fall asleep till 5 am or later and when i do fall asleep i wake up many many times throughout the night causing sleep paralysis and all other sorts of issues.. anyhow i went to the dr about it and he prescribed xanax which worked fine but i really dont want to become chemically dependant on that..

just wondering what people who have issues sleeping take and have they helped you.. i'm currently taking tylenol pm every night.. dont really have issues waking up and only wake once or twice throughout the night.. i have my buddy who owns a pharmacy in brazil shipping me a ton of ambien gonna give that shot..

any insight on this problem of mine.. i think i might die soon..

I feel your pain.

I only sleep because I pass out from exhaustion and when I do it's only for 3 or so hours and I'm up again.

I have not tried anything accept melatonin to sleep - eh, it's ok, good to start but after a while nada.

Have you been tested for sleep apnea?

have not been tested.. melatonin actually keeps me up later.. 6 tylenol pm's and i'm out like a light in about 2 hours.. but i dont think its healthy..

fuck, sleep is never easy for me. the worst are nights like sunday...went to bed around ~1...didn't fall asleep until...well, i didn't. got out of bed around 6:30 to go for a run, because i intended to do that and i love to say 'fuck me.' somehow, i didn't start to crash at work on monday until it was just about quitting time, but it's usually torture.

i'd be happy to get four solid hours. it's not always that bad, though. i use tylenol pm, benadryl, sleep aids on occasion...they can help. although i don't want to get used to those, if they gave me 6 hours a night, i'd fucking do it.

I've suffered insomnia for the last 14 years. Like Velvet, the only GOOD sleep I get is out of sheer exhaustion. I've never tried taking anything. I think I'm still clinging to the hope that one day I'll be able to snap out of it.

tylenol pm works for me.. i guess i dont have as much issues as you fellows.. but i'm with you on going to bed at 1 and laying in bed for 5 hours.. happened to me many a times..

My problem now is that I can't stay awake. I'm ALWAYS SLEEPY and yawning.

When I lived with my ex, I used to wake up exactly at 3:30 a.m. every night. I haven't ever done that before or since living with him. It drove me NUTS. I think it was a premonition of sorts.

perhaps- you are making up for lost time being restless. it takes a toll on the mind when we are somewhere we know isnt right... :)

5 hours if I'm lucky.

I think my problem is related to my work.

I have tried Ambien and Lunesta. I didnt like the way either made me feel.

never had problems before, but since the problems with the wife started, i've not really slept properly for over a month, maybe a couple hours a night and thats broken. esp. when i was used to a good 7-9 hrs.

anyone got any suggestions on this to take that i can get in the UK?

No, I just took the night off from sleeping.

Should be tired enough to sleep tomorrow night.

*brews more coffee*

go see a sleep doc. See if they think your problem is primary or secondary insomnia or something else. What's your work schedule like? Do you keep a pretty consistent schedule for sleeping?

yes, its making me cranky as hell. if its not one thing its teh other - first these pricks were doing demolition next door and playing bongo drums with a giant metal bin. fine, got earplugs. then a mosquito gets into the room, bit the shit out of me, including my lip, which swelled up like a ducks. took me 3 hours to find and kill the bastard. then a fly gets into my room (a fucking fly. on the 4th floor) and its one of those zippy fast bastards that you cant catch and just tickles the shit out of you. then my housies all trip out on X and are awake all day talking loads of bullshit, and then factor in the girls....man im a wreck. i dronk more coffee than water, wtf

Melatonin. Take it. I had insomnia for years till this was suggested to me. It works, and it's completely natural. I haven't slept this well in years.

melatonin and valerian....valerian works really well.

tylenol PM is an antihistamine, same thing as benadryl. I used to have to take it to fall asleep....every day. But eventually, it put me into a wicked depression. I hate life when i'm taking that shit.

Me too!

I dread Sundays.

I tried changing my schedule (not working Mondays) but that just shifted everything forward a day. (stress related perhaps?) That's so funny, I was running at odd hours in the middle of the night but the better half was woken up every time I tried to slip out of the house so now I just get into my office and work. I can't schedule meetings in the afternoon because after 2pm I'm pretty useless. So I end up doing most of my work between 3am and noon.

It's utter madness.

I wonder if it's hereditary because I remember as a child my father never slept more than 3-4 hours and he was in his office in the wee hours until he had to leave to do rounds.

I took a yoga class on Monday and I will take it again today - I figure I've tried everything else why not this too. (if it helps I'll let you guys know)

Did I mention I gave up caffiene too - cold turkey - a little over a month ago?

Yah.

being self employed is definitely an enemy of good sleep

I go through spouts of it...either I can't sleep and that last for days on end and then there are a couple of days my body is wore out from not sleeping for so long I can't make it till 9:00.
I have tried ambien and it sucks!! Had a thread about it once....cost me 75.00 for 30 pills so I thought they would be awesome.......1st night seemed to work but hasn't since!!!

I know it's not a cure all but doing cardio daily has really helped my sleeping. My main problem is getting up in the middle of the night to piss. This has to be extremely quick w/o any light. If I take a while my mind starts to awake and the wheels start turning then. I'll think of everything from A-Z for an hour or two before I can get back to sleep. Being sandwiched b/n the wife and our cat doesn't help either.

Ambien is terrible. Well not so much terrible for me as dangerous. I trip out and do weird shit when I take it. I've tried to cook weird concoctions in the middle of the night and have no recollection. I've lit a q-tip on fire to use to light a bunch of candles in my apartment (and thankfully managed not to burn the place down) and have no recollection (both incidents were put together by the aftermath in the morning). Once I went out and sat in my parent's front yard in nothing but a tank top and panties (this one I remember. The ground was warping and it looked like the grass was moving like waves, so I went to check it out. Then I felt woozy and seasick and sat. For a while).

I cannot take that stuff, ever.

REALLY?
that is weird.....it just doesn't help me. I can take one and literally be awake and fine 2 hours later!!!
But now ask me about one of those sport/entergy drinks....those make me feel weird. lol

I'm going to a neurologist on monday for my sleeping disorder/sleep walking issues.

don't laugh.... but seriously my beau told me I bit him on the back last night in my sleep... and got up and started cleaning my closet.

I'm really worried about myself :worried:

OMG

Mine worries if I clean out the closets when I'm awake - I can't imagine what he would do if I were sleep walking and doing it.

Seriously though, OMFG - are you ok? Good Luck with the appt... post up or PM me.

never thought i had a sleep walking issue... my x never said anything about that at all. Then single for a few years, so no telling what i did then. I know I awake multiple times a night though, but lately its waking with out even knowing. I currently have a scar on my chin from sleepwalking and falling ... guess i went back to sleep while walking, i dunno.. had to get stiches in my chin. then was awoke last night (again) with C asking me what I was doing... said i was walking around in circles on the side the bed and then started cleaning my closet. I don't remember a thing.

I'll pm you with the results from the doc... He's worried about me... heck, i don't blame him... i'm worried about what i'll do next.
