I'm trying out ZMA today for the first time. Anyone have any advice? My goal is to gain size and strength by combining ZMA with my normal protein/ creatine/ food/ rest/ food regime.

My workout is going to be a continuation of 5x5 which I have been doing for a few months with good results.

Thx

I have taken ZMA every night for a year. It puts me into a deep sleep and I feel better in the morning. As for as increased testosterone, strength or muscle gain I haven't noticed anything. What I do notice is I sleep better, feel better and have more energy in the morning.

I'm interested.. Currently taking Xanax to sleep, but have to stop after a week due to addiction and withdrawl symptoms. So I use Melatonin, and it puts me to sleep for about 3 hours and Valerian Root doesn't do shit.

I've also tried ambien which effects my prostate and I wake up to urinate 5 times a night. Ever since I went on HRT my motors always runnin and I can't sleep.

I used it for a year. Now off for a year and sleep the same. I also dont believe there was any noticable test increase. I would not recommend ZMA.

In my experience the only supplements I have actually "felt" or "noticed" working beyond any possible placebo effect are:

whey protein, 2-3 shakes a day with what I normally eat and getting stronger or bigger is never a problem.

creatine-within 3-4 days I'll gain around 5-8lbs of water weight from this. Within that same period of time I notice the last rep or 2 of set's being stronger.

Fish Oil-seems to legitimately regulate my blood pressure among other benefits it has.

Steroids/prohormones-these work without question in the presence of solid training and adequate protein intake. Obviously they are illegal though.

And that's it. I actually notice these supplements working.

On top of these a quality multi-vitamin/mineral supplement and vitamin c is what I typically use.

These are what I take when money is limited. If cash is not a problem I'll add in ginseng and a few herbs, but I really don't notice these, but since they have proven studies showing their benefits I will use them.

Green tea is one of the best supplements you can take. Extremely high in anti-oxidants and overall is a very cheap supplement that tastes good.

I'm not saying other things don't work and I have heard of zma's benefits, but I remember taking it and not noticing a thing.

Basically to summarize their are better things to spend your money to optimize lifting gains.

i found zma didnt do much for me, so i spend the extra money on beastdrol

Umm.... I'd be a little more cautious at recommending a steroid to someone who was thinking about taking ZMA.... easy there OP, don't take thigns too quickly or your health could be put in jeoporady.

As far as ZMA goes, my opinion is don't bother.
Here's a recent study concluding it had no effect on testosterone.

Serum testosterone and urinary excretion of steroi... [Eur J Clin Nutr. 2009] - PubMed result

So unless you are deficient in zinc.... I'd say its a no go for you.

ZMA? And this post isn't from 1998?!?!

Dude, it's zinc and magnesium. Use a multi like DX7 and get about 30 more nutrients for the same price.

I don't know about test boosting or any of that with ZMA.

What I do notice as rebecca said is I can get to sleep much easier with it and my sleeps are deeper and much better.
This is the purpose I use it for and it works perfectly for that. (for me anyways).

It's surprising since I don't really respond to melatonin, valerian root, etc.

Never noticed a thing from it. I tried it BACK in the day. Trust some more hyped up crap. Supplements for the most part are better nowwadays, except that more are banned now.
