Any diff between fresh & canned...

Yams?? Not canned candied yams, but plain canned yams??

This is the time of year they are on sale & I would stock up if they are pretty much the same.
 
as long as not processed with sugar or corn syrup
and the sodium level is lo i do not see why it is not okay

convenience does not been unusable

not everyone has time to cook

and you can micro a fresh yam dear

I would suggest going w/ fresh b/c of the sodium and preservative content.

the taste is the first difference you'll easily notice (fresh being better)

What's more usually canned food have a higher GI (not good)
 
If the fresh ones are plentiful it may be worth it to consider canning your own. I don't know if that is something that you are interested in but it is certainly worth a shot. Not too difficult either. You can control exactly what goes into them, nothing but yams and some water.

You would need to buy a pressure canner though and they are a bit expensive. ~$150 or so. It would be something to consider if you are really hardcore or want yams that are good year round and not loaded with sugary syrup. :)
