around 4-6am? do you eat an hour before working out or do you eat and then head out to the gym right away?

Make sure you bring an extra sweat shirt...I've seen numerous studies that say working out in the am can be hazardous to your health. Just an fyi, not what your asking.

I have always heard one should work out in the morning as soon as he gets up, even before breakfast, but I cannot do it. I mean, I don't even remember my name when I get up, let alone working out.

My best workouts usually come after my 2nd meal of the day, at which point I have been up for about 4hours. But I often work out immediatley after my first meal due to time restraints on weekends, and I don't notice that much of a difference. Once you get your first couple working sets down, and your body pumped full of blood, I get wide awake.

i have to work out at 6am everyday because of work and family time. i have had great gains doin it. Arnold and Franco did that for years every morning. he said that he had his most intense workouts in the early am. i usally eat at 4:45 and am at the gym by 6, it has been working for me. plus there isnt all those little high school kids walking around with an attitude :)

Yeah Volpe, That is the same way I have been doing and for the exact same reasons. It is nice to get it over that early in the morning and feel good throughout the day

i recently started working out in the morning (7am) and i would never go back to lifting in the eveing/night again. The gym is empty, no cheeseballs at all, and you feel like a million bucks for the rest of the day

Up at 5am... 40 gms. of protien, 5g of Glutamine.... off to train... I go on an epty stomache. I slam another protein shake (usually 8am or so) and breakfast around 9:00-9:15 which is usally oatmeal and granolla...

up at 5 also......32 grams of protein (cott cheese), 125 grams of carbs......at the gym by 6, shake at 730 (50 grams of protein, 100 grams of carbs, next meal at 830-900.....

Arnold suggests working out in the morning right after taking in a carb shake. I tried it a few times and love it. It's kinda hard to do it at school though, but maybe during the summer break. :p

Sucked for me, i need to be awake for about 3 hours. My early morning workouts were among the worst, i was weak, akward and it fealt like i was lifting with my bones and tendons, like the muscles were not there or something, it's hard to describe but that's as close as i can get it.

i've been working out at 5am for the past year but i've been getting lazy because its getting colder in the AM (50 degrees, hehe). i was told to eat before working out to minimize catabolism. i was just wondering how many workout in the AM and eat before going. thanks for the replies bros.

whats that about a sweatshirt??

Ive been working out around 7am the past couple days, and I really like it,BUT I work third so I had been up all night, and had taken in a good amount of food.I do like lifting right after I get up and get some food in,and settled....it does seem to make me feel good/ready for the rest of the day.

I trained at 6 am for almost 2 years. I would wake up at 4AM, eat some Oatmeal and go back to bed. After a while, I wouldn't even really wake up for this meal. By the time I got up to meet my trainer 2 hours later, I was ready to roll!

I've never lifted that early but I have recently been taking a 5 AM spin class on Wednesday...and I feel like a million bucks for the rest of the day. I wish I could drag my ass out of bed every morning...but I'm being realistic since I am a total night owl. I go on an empty stomach, but this is just cardio.

I've also read that there is an increased risk of injury working out in the morning because the body is cold, tight, etc. and that may be why someone mentioned the extra sweat shirt. Franco Columbo used to alwasy lift in full sweat suits to help prevent injury. I do the same. Doesn't matter if it is 90 degrees out or not I have to have a good sweat going at all times.

Also, realistically even if you eat in the morning it could take hours before your muscles became filled up with glycogen.

I have tried it a few times and basically always felt out of it. Also, I am so not a morning person.

Whether it be morning cardio or weights, it just doesn't work for me. I've tried different preparations (waking earlier and eating/drinking coffee, various amounts/types of food and time etc...), but nothing has made it viable. I feel pathetic and workout just as poorly.

Me either! I do it anyways because I want the result it'll give me. I have to spend the night over my boyfriend's house so he can elbow me until I wake up...I'm sooooo sleepy in the morning and I hate leaving a warm bed!
