anchoring bands

i just got my bands in my question is how do i anchor them to the ground?if someone has a pic of how its done it would help a lot thanks.

You can look at a few of my posts on the Training board. I put my workout up today, "Speed Squats, high band tension, 5-1-02" and my dynamic lower post from last week...you can see how I have mine set up.

I have 2, 110 blocks of steel that I hold them down with. I put a 55lb dbell on one side of the steel block and a pair of 45's on the other side to hold it down. It has worked so far...

We used a piece of half inch steel about a quarter inch thick and eighteen inches long. We attached a heavy duty handle on one end with screws. Then we slide it under the power rack, one on each side, and attach the bands from the handle to the bar.

power rack

We just loop them around the bottom foundation of the power rack and they work just fine. If you don't have a power rack just run a bar or pipe perpendicular underneat your bench and attach them there. Good luck

yeah what none of you mention tho was just how fucking unco you feel that first time you try bands.

tonight was ME squat night but i just had to try out the bands to see what they were like. After some creative engineering to anchor them in place i got set under the bar and walked out to squat. Next thing i know there is an allmighty crash and the power rack tilts forward and smacks the mirrors in front of me.

Lesson 1, make sure the power rack is bolted to the floor.

after a few moments of feeling like a dick, i discard the bands and do my regular squat. hit a new PR of 405 for a single, 4 plates never looked so good.

Anyway i tried the bands with bench and after 20 mintues trying to anchor them i bastardised something that worked and got under the bench to try them out. First thing i noticed was how unstable i felt. my arms were bouncing around all over the place and lowering the weight resulted in this weird seesaw motion. felt awsome tho narrow grip really bombed my tri's and i was only using the bar and the blue bands doubled.

second set felt a lot more stable, kinda like i found the groove, had to be very aware of stabilizer muscles and what i was doing when lowering the bar.

packing up my anchor system took longer than my sets did heh. but i think i will get the hang of it.
