In my experience, part of the issue is the puritanical nature in which the subject is dealt with. Perhaps even more important is, what someone cleverly noted above, the commercialization of sex and sexuality and the idolotry of beautiful women.

Spain´s biggest problem is ignorance about contraception, leading to growing teen pregnancy.
