Alright girls lets talk about Cardio/Spinning and .......

How long do you row for? In the case of pure fat loss that is. I'm assuming the overall time would be less due to high heart rate?

Or if you do intervals, what's the time scheme?

I was working on fat loss and was doing a 2 min intervals. Those two minutes, however were very intense and frankly couldn't do more then that. 6 intervals total with a 60 secs rest.

Ouch! But that's what i want, something quick. My schedule is getting crazy and i've been skipping cardio.

Did you do this in the morning? Pre breakfast?

If you're really giving everything you have in the maxed out parts, I wouldn't do more than 30 seconds of all out, and a minute and a half of moderate, maybe six to eight cycles of that. Five minute warm up and five minute cool down.

I would love to use a rowing machine. I have heard only good things, but my gym chain does not have them. lately I've been doing stair-mill intervals and it is kicking my butt. 15-20 minutes of intervals and I'm spent.

I've done a few spin classes and it's not for me. The spin instructor at my gym is your classic "skinny fat" guy. He has a harem of women he trains and they all look horrible. Even after months of training with him. I have only seen (him) them use single-joint iso exercises and mostly with poor form. I want to speak up and offer my advice to these poor ladies, but he is a "certified" personal trainer and I'm just the guy in the corner busting my ass squatting double my body weight. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest :D

I did do it in the morning, but after weights. This will do it!
I'm sure you can do it anytime, but because is so short in duration and your body is already warmed up, it might work for you as well after weight training.

I have read articals completely opposite to that. One specificly was about Jen Hendershot and doing sprints and running outside to bring her legs in better. Everyone is diffrent and what maybe catabolic to one person might not be too another. I have a spinning bike and I know 20-30 minutes on it is equal to 20-30 minutes on step mill intensity wise. I turn the resistance way up and am standing about 80% of the time. This is my first contest prep doing this so we will see but I have heard lots of good things about high ristance on a bike for the legs. I do know from past preps that I could get my heart rate above 120 and not lose muscle again I always use when in contest mode so that could be it. What I am saying is there is no absolutes in fitness as everyone is different. You are best of trying something for 2-4 weeks and see how it works for you.

P.S. I keep meaning to try the rowers at my gym esepecially after a back work out but if I am at the gym and the step mill is free I use it.

Yep, legs first, then back, then arms. Still like that. lol, we didn't do the shirts thing, though.

If we lost the other team got our t-shirts with our name and logo etc. That sucks.
Of course when we won we got the other teams. That of course was awesome!:supercool

Somehow I love this thread. Is inspiring me, among other things.
I did 20 minutes on the rowing this morning; inspired by this thread. Ohhhh, I couldn't get up from the machine. :D

I tried rowing this morning too. I couldn't figure out how to use the machine and couldn't get the intervals timed right. I have no patience in the morning so i jumped on the elliptical lol.

The rowing machine has different programs to do and it can be confusing. It took me while to figure out. Don't give up!
