No that is not normal, but it does happen from time to time (with any injection site really). You just nicked a blood vessel is all, and no need to panic.

i am not a fan of the glutes because i like to see what i am doing without using a mirror or bending around

i much prefer injecting in pecs or delts if you are new to this

you just hit a vein... try ventrogluteal, its a much easier injection

If it's hard to push in, its probably scar tissue. When that happens relocate the needle
