Maybe. But that would likely kill the whole idea of being plat. Think of it like this: advertising is sold around content. 99% of EF content is hidden from the masses because the site isn't searchable.
EF should run an experiment. Make search and photo viewing free for a week. Traffic will likely double. That should prove to the site owners that the site has a greater revenue potential with an entirely advertising based business model than this hybrid approach.
You will obviously have some fences to mend with life time plats, however. Depending on what CPM your charging advertisers such traffic growth should far eccede whatever your plat revenue is. How many plats are there?
Another advantage is that more users will link to more, older posts. More inbound links from other sites means greater search engine visibility and PageRank which generates more traffic, unique visitors, pageviews, etc.

When I first joined, this was back in the days that a lot of things most members now take for granted was first being discovered. Ranger, Jeff_rys, and a bunch of others had basically turned themselves into human projects to dabble with new compounds like DNP, PGFGF2a, etc..
You can search from posts about 2000 and 2001 and spend a week reading those alone.
Elitefitness also has brought you some of the best sponsors to emerge on the internet landscape. Most of them got their first start right here on EF from the very beginning. Primordorial Performance is an excellent example of this.
The point of this thread was to find a way to reward loyal Plat Members for their support here and also find a way to encourage new members to become Plat as well. Karma and crowns are great, but sometimes a real world benefit helps out a great deal too.
Which is why I was seeing if perhaps benefits like a discount on the sponsors products for Plat Members here and such would appeal to most Non Plat members and persuade them to give the Plat features a try.

AAP: Discounts for Plat members would likely be moderately successful. However, I made the posts I made because I really like EF and want it to be as successful as possible.
Informational websites and their business models are something I study professionally and am passionate about.
It seems that there is a great deal of content available that most visitors will never see because of the mindset that information is free. You can try changing that mindset (as many have tried) or monetize the enormous database through adverting.
Hell, even the New York Times has abandoned their pay for play model.
On another note, from looking at some third party tools it looks like EF has lost about half of it's traffic since the redesign. Is that correct?
I indirectly support the site by buying all my supplements from sponsors or recommendations on this board.
However, I do feel like this site has become rampant with board members trying to push their products that I'm starting to doubt the validity of anyone's claims on this site.
