This is a very basic question and sorry but I couldn't find the straight forward information. I like to drink, have a good time just like anyone else. I use to drink just about every Fri and Sat starting with about 8-9 beers then move on to shots.

I don't want to cut drinking out all together, but those of you who do drink on the weekends what do you drink? What effects does beer do to your muscles if you drink like 4-5 hours after you work out? What about drinking something like capt/coke or makers/coke instead of beer? Just curious to what I need to do or is drinking beer just fine except for the beer gut.

LOL.... I asked the same question once. NO ALCOHOL is good. BEER is Very bad. If you are going to drink. Drink hard alcohol as shots thats the best way. If you dont want to do that cause youll probably end up shit faced pretty quick drink hard alcohol with diet pop.
Its not going to effect your muscles that much but it will raise your caloric intake for the day. More you drink the more calories i think 1 shot of liquor is about 100-120 calories (empty calories).
Also the day after you drink your probably not going to train as hard if you even make it to the gym. As if you hadnt drank and your diet will probably not be the greatest. that day either.
Other things if your trying to burn fat alcohol slows your matabolism down quite abit so that will also take a couple days to get back going.

Hey but its friday bro dont you got some partying to be doing????

It's going to do much more than that. Besides it dehydrating you, the biggest downside is the huge reduction in protein synthesis for some time after drinking.

Really just depends a lot on your goals and willpower, keeping it to a minimum is always going to give you the best results, but man...I can't see basing your whole life around that. Go out, drink, have fun every once in a while, but if it turns into 2-3 nights a week, every week...you're probably going to have very negative effects come from it.
 
Right now my drinking is only on Fri or Saturdays. I try to stay sober on Fridays because I usually work 6 days a week so that means Saturday early morning. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing this (working out) for anyone but myself. So its not like I'm training for something.

Thanks for the information, I'll probably stick to drinking some shots w/ diet coke or something and stay away from the beer for a bit. BTW, I have a hard time getting enough calories as it is so is this "bad" calories that I shouldn't even have? Or does it even matter.
 
I quit drinking after New Years. I was drinking a liter of cheap Rum every weekend, a big mug of 4 shots rum and 2 cans of diet coke. Drink the whole bottle over the weekend...not only that but I would chow down on a bag of chips or other crap while drinking.

Anyways, since I have quit, I have lost 14lbs in 27 days...255lbs down to 241lbs this morning. It's great not waking up hung over too!
 
I'm a tequila aficionado and i've noticed over the years that when i quit the shots for any length of time i gain weight and my muscles get bigger. I know some of it's got to do with better nutritional calories but i'm also wondering how much it affects your test. level too, if at all.
 
I drink light beer 1 or 2 times per week. Usually in the 6 to 10 range. Never the night before heavy lifting. Usually 4 - 6 hours after training. My muscles seem to get fuller looking. It might be a beer buzz delusion - LOL.

after several shots of teq i thought i looked bigger too. i know there's some scientific reason behind this. :)

actually the diet colas get you messed up quicker as you body can get straight to processing the alcohol sugars and dose't have the soda competeing. so it would be better to just drink it straight and better yet to just leave the booze alone. just my 2cts

Probably wouldn't hurt if you mix in a lot of water on the nights you drink as well. Helps w/ dehydration & keeps you flushed.
