Alcohol & Bodybuilding

One day, long ago... Wikipedia, Britannica, and EBSCOhost got together to put thier combined knowledge into one database. The experiment went awry when the database gained consciousness and assumed the name "macrophage69alpha". It is estimated this creature will conquer the world by 2032.

alcohol fu(cks with your stress hormone cortisol. I wouldnt have more than one or two dirty ketel one martinis ...and if u r really serious about ur goals why drink>? Wait until u reach ur goal and then have a little party...

i agree with what everyone here says BUT Summer just ended and I can honestly say that i drank heavily 4 or more nights a week. I kept my diet the same except for eating 3 or 4 slices of pizza after drinking twice a week. I worked out about twice a week but engaged in some sort of exercise about 3 or 4 times a week. Volleyball swimming baseball. I did not gain a pound of fat nor did Lose muscle or strength.

So I know its not good for you and i wouldnt do it 12 months a year but I will do it for 3. So maybe there were no noticeable changes but I know it could have affected me in ways I not aware of.

alcohol is a toxin, meaning, that while it is on your body, your body WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE, but to try and get rid of it... so, no fat burning (if you are cutting) , no muscle growth, no nothing... priority one is to get it out.

You decide if you want to bust your ass on the gym and then give your body somehing with a higher priority to do

i was always slim until a year ago when i started boozing every other nite. put on alot of bodyfat.

Most definetly true in my situation. Drank alot and gained alot of body fat. Stopped drinking and got on a good steady diet and lost 7% bf. I'll never make that mistake again.

Alcohol is detrimental to diet. It is purely empty calories that don't even get used by the body for fuel at all. I think I read somewhere that your body even halts the use of its normal fuel sources to get rid of the alcohol in your system first (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. anybody). However, I think it's okay as long as you don't drink too much and/or too often. I stay away from beer, though, since it has a lot of extra cals on top of the alcohol and you have to drink a considerable amount to get a decent buzz going. I stick with wine or liquor. 2 small glasses of scotch on the rocks or 2 glasses of vino usually gets me comfortably toasty.

Alchohol is 7 kcal/g. You'll have to burn that up (for energy) before you start burning using your normal body fuel

As a college student who turned 21 this past year, stopping drinking was a big deal. I won't touch a drink now becasue of my goals. I figure if I am going to drink all of those empty calories, I would rather eat another bowl of oatmeal. However, I have also lost many friends in the process as you all know drinking is a big part of college.l still go out and dance, but just sober. It can be very tiring at times and remote watching everyone look dumb, but on the flip side I felt it has made a difference in my body.

Drinking will kill your gains! Also read it rasies your estrogen levels also not good if your a gear head...But 2 or 3 beers wont kill ya so the guys dont think your a puss not knocking down 1 or 2 on the weekend...Just use common sence.... ;)

LOL, I've definitely noticed some people take it a lot better than others, If I drink more than one night a week I start packing on the lbs, but I have friends who can drink comparable amounts without gaining weight

this is partly due to alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase levels. Though there are a vriety of factors, in particular insulin sensitivity, that affect bodyweight changes due to alcohol consumption.
