How bad is alcohol for you as you're trying to gain muscle mass? Im in college and drink occasionally and have started to wonder if that is effecting my performance at all.

well your in college, so your probably gonna drink either way. beer is probably the worse for you. it makes you crave all that junk food, hence the "beer gut". people dont get a beer belly from drinking beer, they get it from eating so much junk food when they are drunk. ive been sober since february but when i used to drink, i wouldnt drink beer, i would drink jack with diet coke, a drink or two just to hangout and talk to people. when you put alcohol in your body, it stops burning carbs and fats, and starts burning the alcohol first. you have to be more strict when cutting. not as much when bulking. just dirnk in moderation and stick to your diet, youll be fine

it is counter productive in several ways. it dehydrares you. it is a high simple carbs. it lowers your energy level for long periods of time. are the worst of them for a bb'er

I've recently started back on the whole Friday and Saturday night drinking thing.

If you're going to drink do it on nights before your off days so you don't miss workouts because you feel like shit.

As far as running liver toxic compounds and drinking goes, I'm running two liver toxic orals and drinking 1-2 days a week. My eyes and skin aren't yellow yet!

1) It negatively affects protein synthesis.

2) It lowers testosterone levels and increases estrogen.

3) It causes dehydration.

4) It depletes the body of vitamins and minerals.

5) It increases fat storage.

aloric Content of a few popular alcoholic beverages:

-Budlight bottle (12 oz.) = 110 calories

-Budweiser bottle (12 oz.) = 146 calories

-Shot of 100 proof liquor (1.5 oz.) = 124 calories

-Shot of 80 proof liquor (1.5 oz) = 97 calories

-Pina Colada cocktail (4.5 oz) = 245 calories

-Merlot red wine (5 oz) = 123 calories

-Pinot Grigiot white wine (5 oz) = 123 calories

Alcohol intake spikes insulin levels (which can lead to fat storage), and then can quickly drop a person into a hypoglycemic state where they continue to crave sugary drinks and junk food.

In addition, although it's hard to come to any firm conclusions, scientific research suggests that alcohol drops testosterone levels in both sexes. Lower testosterone equates to less muscle and more fat. Too much alcohol can literally make a man less of a man, and can lower a woman's sex drive as well.

hope that will help;)
