Aerobics Instructor cert

Ladies (and I'm posting this here because I know what response I'll get on the guy's board),

I'm a Tae Bo instructor and teach at a very high-profile celebrity-type gym in LA. I wanna teach at the OTHER high-profile one (anyone who lives here knows which two I'm talking about :)) but actually don't have any certification... before I walk in the door I thought it'd be a useful thing to have despite 5+ years of teaching cardioboxing/high impact aerobics/muscle conditioning...

Any recommendations on an easy-to-pass test that's still somewhat credible? ACE unfortunately doesn't test till next May and I'm taking my PT test with them that day, so that one's outta the question.

Thanks.

IFA certification, You take the test online. It is not going to look as good as an ACE cert, but I know down here in Florida most gyms do not seem to care as long as you have a cert and the few that do will except the cert and then send you to the class for the cert of their choice. Also the IFA cert is an Step - Kickboxing - Personal Trainer Cert and list all 3 on the cert card.
Also the manuals and the test are free, if you pass it then you pay the registation fee of $99 for 2 years.

This is so cool!!

I am bumping this up because I think this is so awesome! I have always wanted to be a step aerobics teacher. I'm going to teach it for the first time a week from Friday. I'm not teaching in a "real" gym, just the one at the college that I work at. Wish me luck. I definetly wanna look into this cert if I find that I really enjoyed myself on Friday. Take care.

I've been teaching for nearly 5 years. I have ACE & it seems ACE & AAFA are the most well respected & well known.

You can also get speciality certs - which might be ideal for you since you're only interested in teaching KB - http://www.ekickboxing.com BTW, I believe "Tae Bo" is copywrited. Most gyms call it 'cardio boxing' or just 'kickboxing'.

Fortunately some gyms just want you to have a cert - ANY cert so you have that formal, official stamp of approval (& also for legal liability reasons). Unfortunately, other gyms or coordinators might care WHICH cert it is. IMX, the majority care that you have any cert & care most about how well you actually teach. I don't know what the fancy LA gyms are like though - you might want to check with them. It would be a shame to spend $100 on a cert that won't do anything for you.

You could also check out www.turnstep.com - the discussion boards there are awesome. They have a cardio box board.

Good Luck!
