Hello all I thank you in advance for any advice you can give me. I have been working out for about 6 months trying to loose weight and build muscle. I have been doing about 45min to 1 hour of cardio 5 days a week and weight training 5 days a week also. I’m 5’, 11” and weigh 294lbs and my BMI is around 40 which I know is sick. I think I got a good program because my strength has gone up and I can feel my muscles are much harder. What I would like to know is being this fat should I even train for muscle building or should I just up my cardio to 2 hours or something and than when my weight gets down start training again. Even with eating good I found I was eating too much of a good thing and that slowed my weight loss. I joined weight watchers and lost about 20lbs. It’s just kind of hard trying to eat for mass weight loss and eat enough cal. to build muscle.

What do you guys think?????

Thanks

Post up what you eat. EXACTLY what you eat, every tiny little detail.

Doing more and more cardio for fat loss is WAY overrated. Focus on diet first, then bring in more cardio.

Yes, DIET IS KEY. I personally lost about 60 pounds with diet and lifting, AND NOT ONE OUNCE OF CARDIO. NOT ONE. If you are eating too much, you're not going to see the fat loss results you want. Like DG said, post up your diet regiment.

another good thing to do is:

1. Invest on a heart rate monitor: You will need it and it will pay itself many times
2. Invest on a digital scale for your food: Take the guessing out of the equation
3. Get a body fat test done or buy a body fat scale (for the trend it will work)

Once you have your body fat, post it with your training plan, cardio plan and diet. We will move from there. Thre things you need to do since the beginning: Diet, Cardio and Weight lifting, don't cut corners by trying to get along with 2 only.

I would not try to build the muscle and cut at the same time, that is just me..I think you should dedicate yourself to cuting for several months and see where that takes you. The 5x cardio/wk is great, you can stil hit the gym, but I would not lift for mass, 15-18 reps or some burnout sets with low weight, like cardio-weight training in a sense. And as these fine men and woman say, Diet is key.
