Adding flavor to cottage cheese

I'm pretty new to the board, but thought I'd add this to the mix.

I stopped at a supermarket to pick up a small container of fat free cottage cheese yesterday, and a little old lady told me to add sunflower seeds as a topping. Well, I did try it and it was incredible. Adds texture and taste to an otherwise bland snack.

In the past, I've added mandarin oranges and grapefruit sections to it, which also make it a little more palatable, but a lot soupier.

While sunflower seeds are mostly fat, they are pretty good fats, being mono and polyunsaturated for the most part. Was just wondering if anyone else had tried it before.

I will have to try that. I usually get some canned peaches in the light syrup and then drain that all out and mix it in. You get some sugar but it is great for a fast light breakfast. Berries are good too, just about any fruit. I think I will try a can of tuna next. LOL

How many seeds did u put in there? half a cup or so?

Piss in the cottage cheese. That adds a lot of flavor. If your wife is pregnant have her piss in it...that way you will get some hgh from her pregnant urine yummm..... :chomp:

Never have liked cottage cheese, more of a protein guy myself. Anyhow chow away and gl bro :)

I put a couple tablespoons in a cup of cottage cheese. I thought the lady was off her rocker, but it really was good

I have tried that but not with the almonds and it is pretty darn good. Always hits the spot at about lunchtime.

Well, cottage cheese is an excellent protein source, and cheap to boot, that's why I eat pounds of it each week.

Now if you want a real cheap and easy protein source I could whip up a batch for ya

Try adding sf cal. free choc. syrup and berries, sf maple syrup w/tsp peanut butter or peanuts & sliced banana, cinnamon & splenda with walnuts/almonds and berries, or mixing 1/2 lo carb yogurt w/ 1/2 cottage cheese w/ any flavor protein powder. If you freeze it, it tastes like ice cream! for a tasty lunch mix tuna, cottage cheese, green onion, jalapenos, chili powder, garlic powder, dry oats, tsp ff miracle whip, and fry in a pan.Add in tomato w/basil, black pepper, and garlic powder. Use as filling for deviled eggs w/any herb or seasoning. Or use as dip for fresh veggies. Just some ideas (:

my friend puts in sugar free strawberry jello and sliced banana in there. Im not really a fan of cottage cheese.

I tried it with a little cinnamon and splenda the other day and it tasted like a freaking dessert. It was awesome.

I'm gonna try the SF Jello soon though... that sounds like it could be money.

I had 1% cottage cheese last night with Sunflower kernels on top.........YUM!!!!!!!

not a problem, I'll thank the lady if I ever see her again!

1c cottage cheese, 1-2 tsp vanilla flavoring, 2-3 packets of splenda, 1-2 tbs natty pb mixed with a spoon= breathtakingly delicious slow digesting pre bedtime meal.

be careful with that vanilla stuff bro, it'll give you the runs if you get too much at once. I accidently slip while pouring once, at lets say i wasn't right for 3 days.

Tried a couple of these ideas and they've been great. Has anyone ever seen "large curd" fat free cottage cheese? I can only find small curd fat free, but i really like the large curd more, does it exist in a fat free version?

Hmm, sorry I haven't seen any. Anyone in FL notice that Winn-Dixie's brand non-fat seems sweeter than wal-mart's? Wal-mart's actually seems a little bitter/sour. and that's not out of date cheese, either.

I live in MS but still have Winn-Dixie. I haven't tried thiers since i stopped shopping at WD since their prices are outrageous compared to Wal-Mart. Cept. when they have those buy 1 get 2 free sales. I may have to stop by tom. and pick up some just to try it. I like Wal-Marts though and i don't find it sour....unless its bad..yuck.

I eat the non fat pineapple flavored kind. Non fat tastes just as good or better than 4%. Thats unusual. I could live off of it

okay
here i go again
chef ala go go checking in

get a pad of paper and a pen laddie
this will get messy:

so cottage cheese or in better circles ricotta cheese is basically unflavoured fresh cheese and lots of liquid (whey) not much in the way of hi quality protien but it can be helpful in a diet
first off strain the cheese
set it in a mesh strainer or a colander lined with a coffe filter
either overnight in the frig or for at least ten minutes before you get to adding stuff

foremost that comes to my mind and one of my faves is salsa
then:
*dill (dried or fresh) and lemon pepper (a nice topping for baked salmon will melt and get gooey yum)
*chopped apples, nuts of choice, cinnamon and honey/splenda
*canned tuna, drained
*any fresh herb and lots of black pepper
*any dried fruit
*any nuts just toasted them first
*smoked salmon
*salad shrimp
*sauteed mushrooms and garlic
*any fresh fruit like pineapple or peaches or blueberries just make sure the fruit is ripe
*alittle and i mean alittle thai red curry paste or lots if you like it spicier just experiment first since curry pastes can be salty
*a dash or alot of your fave hot sauce
*mrs. dash
*celery salt
*cajun spice
*alittle beef jerky chopped and added the night before (makes it abit softer and spreads the flavour all through the cheese
*sundried tomato done in the same way as the beef jerky and some italian spices
*italian dressing
*topping your fave salad like a nice caeser
*sour dough croutons and some nice parmesan cheese
*add alittle sharp/old cheddar
*chopped jalapenos
*any toasted seeds....flax, sesame and pumpkin come to mind
*toss it into your fave lo carb pasta dish
*use it to add protien to any other dish just drain it well first
*bran flakes and sweetner
*chopped celery and red onions pinch of sea salt (tossing tuna and hot sauce in with these is good too)

k did i miss anything?
any questions send me a pm
cheers from (finally) warm ottawa way upf reaking north

I stopped buying the FF kind as I've noticed that the FF has more sugar than the 1% (in most cases)

Am I the only one who loves the taste of cottage cheese? haha I get 3-4 3lb tubs of it from SAM's for $3.88 per 3lb and just snake on it. Also get like 5 bags of chicken breasts eat like 2-3 8oz chicken breasts a day and LOOVE them.

snake????

I actually already posted a topic about the sunflower seeds and cottage cheese. The salt makes it taste so good because the cc is so bland.

Diced roma tomatoes, diced raw jalapeno and a little cilantro. Let it sit overnight so the hot leaches into the cottage cheese real good. Very tasty!

I also use pepper. Pepper is a must with cottage cheese. I don't use the low fat stuff though and I only eat it once in a while for a quick snack.

I added sunflower seeds to my cottage cheese just because of this thread. And I liked it! The crunchyness and flavor is just right. Keeps your mind off of the crap tasting CC.

Done the sunflower seeds & yep the crunch & flavor really help. I like to stir in creole seasoning & bacon bits-(real bacon, not the artificial crap thats like red pea gravel). Salsa also is excellent to "kick it up a notch" but man it looks nasty after its mixed in... :Chef:
