Active rest suggestions!

I hope someone can give some helpful suggestions, I just completed my second bench meet, pretty close together, but i have been hitting it hard for about 6 months! My body is telling me ENOUGH!! I posted about the tendonitis, well, the vioxx knocked it out, but as soon as I did my ME today, it came right back! I wasnt into it mentally, my joints felt like shit,, I wasnt "poppy" off the bottom, just kinda goin through the motions, i know its because i need a break! Does anyone have any suggestions on some actve rest that might help me recover, but I dont want to lose too much! Like I have said, all the new training is foriegn to me!! Im an ol' 80's lifter, back then we trained for 12 weeks, then just went light until the next cycle! any suggestion would be appreciated!

thnx hannibal!!! thats exactly what i needed!!!! I feel like a pounded piece of meet, i need to go light for a couple of weeks to I guess!!

The active recovery thread Hannibal just posted is a really good one. As for myself, when I get to feeling run down, I skip a squat workout. So far this has worked really well. I thus far am just a bench competitor, and if and when I get strong enough to compete in full meets, I may have to change my strategy, but for now it seems to work pretty well, and it also gives my shoulders a chance to heal up.

Screwball has come up with a plan of doing the westside split, but doing workouts every other day, thereby giving him some extra rest. I have a gym in my house and the every other day thing would work for me if I chose to do that, but as I am just a bench specialist, I just use the method described above.

All that having been said, you are far stronger than I am, and what works at my level of fitness may not cut it for someone as strong as you. Best of luck to you, and thanks for contributing to this board.

You guys could do like they do at Southside Barbell (Bob Youngs' Gym). They train Tues, Thur, Sat, Sun. Since you guys have to travel to train with one another it is usually easier to do that on the weekend. They start the week on Tues instead of Sun and follow the normal pattern. Bob has lots of people that come from out of town to train..and it works for them.

You might try to skip the ME and DE work, and just do the accessory stuff for a week or two. Then on your off days do light active recovery stuff. Definately would skip a squat workout, at least. I had a horrible elbow pain for a few weeks, I dropped my squat workouts for two weeks then came back. Didn't lose much and my elbows now feel great. Good luck

that is a good idea Hannibal,

what we have done for now is everyone has switched their max effort bench to sunday and do dynamic work on wednesdays. But the southside split would work well too. On the sundays I have only my wife here, which is about one out of three sundays, I do things where I don't need a 600 lb deadlifter to spot me. and work around it that way. Today for example I did rack lockouts which of course require no spotter at all.

thanks for the suggestion.
