Women,
reason why im here in the womens forum asking you guys is because women hasve a much more difficult time putting on msucle than men. So when you guys do have it then that means you had to work harder, way harder. Question is on Abs, i already posted one on the training discussion board, but i wanted another point of view. How long should an average ab workout be? and for how many times a week should you work them out? I have been working out my abs for about 5 years now anywhere between 30-40 minutes a day, five times a week. Its just getting ridiculous. I have very strong lean abs, but im looking for some size, some volume, you know the kind that the guys on the mens health covers have:) So, any advice on types of exercises and duration of exercise? Use wieghts during ab work, or use none? Help me be on the cover!! j/j:)

I have thick abs for a female and I only do abs once a week. I usually do 2-3 exercises, about 4 sets of 15-30 reps depending on the exercise. I usually use the decline bench and weighted ab machines. Hope this helps. :)

Just curious - why abs 30-40 min, 5x/week? Its just another muscle group. Train it in whatever is your regular split for other body parts and let it recover. I think to a certain degree abs are a genetic thing -- on some people they just stand out, on others it takes a sick amount of dieting to get them to show. I KNOW my abs are strong, but my diet is what will bring them out. Then there are certain things you can do if you want a wider look -- coming from a BB focus, the idea is to avoid the thick waist look so I can't say much there.

if you train hard on all your other body parts, have a clean diet, and keep up the cardio..ab training will be minimal. Twice a week max.

I have the thick waist look, mostly by genetics and partly through over use of test. last summer. Just been wondering what the best exercises, rep. range and training frequency would be for someone looking to reduce waist 'thickness'.
