abs vs cardio

I have dropped my cardio, and have opted to do abs in place of cardio, in the same amount of time, with the least amount of rest. so far, I have seen an improvement in my abdominal area, but my question is, will I be able to reap the same benefits of doing abs straight(with little to no rest) as I would with cardio? I am not looking to get ripped ( I know that comes with diet), but just achieve a stronger base. so far, it seems like I have lost a good inch or so around the circumference on my belly, from doing this.

I usually work abs 3-4 times a week with reverse crunches, hanging leg/knee raises, slow decline crunches, and side bends on the roman chair.

If your body fat percentage is low then you should be fine, but if you have a layer of fat over your abs and you are focusing on building your ab muscles the you may develop and strengthen your abs but the fat layer will still be there and you will end up with a big bloated belly.

if your only goal is to look good then as long as your staying lean you have no problems.

But if your trying to increase your VO2 max then doing an ab circuit isn't going to be sufficient for substantially increasing that. jump rope, running, sprints, biking, basically cardio is usually needed for that.

my 2 cents
