Thanks for looking in.
Im starting Starrs 5 x 5 on monday next week and i wanted to get a few things sorted out. I have got a PT on friday this week to help me out with form on the exercises in Starrs 5 x 5 as i havent done a few of the exercises before (this is due to me only starting the gym and getting into shape at the end of May this year).
These are the 5 main exercises i will be doing.
Deadlifts
Bench
Squat
Military Press
Barbell Row
for the past 2 weeks i have been playing around with these exercises to see if the 5 x 5 is right for me. I am fine with pretty much everything apart from the squat and bench.
So far my squats have been done with Dumbbells down at sides (this will change to proper squats next week when i start and have the technique nailed), now i have only been using 30kg each dumbbell about 130lb ish total for squats my first questions is, will the weight be easier to push once i am using a barbell squat? rather than the dumbbell squat? My second question is pretty much the same. I have been using Dumbbells when doing bench press rather than the bar (again this will change when i start on monday) my main worry is that i will not have a spotter in the gym i go to and with Starrs routine i will be going for PR frequently after week 4 this worrys me slightly as i dont want to drop the bar on my fod
. I have considered the Smith machine but i have read not to substitute weights for machines. So basically the question i am asking is will using dumbbells instead of the bar make a huge diffrence? I seem pretty weak when it comes to benching but i did read that i wll be able to lift a fair bit more when using a bar instead of dumbbells is this true? does the same apply to squats?
Thats it
As i said these are questions only i dont want to fuck with the routine at all im just curious to know the diffrence between bar and dumbbells.
Thanks Crossy
