Just wondering since Im gonna be doing this program shortly with cardio on off days (training for football), would taking less time between sets get me in better shpe for football? I feel like it would but I also want my strength to go up and I usually need a good couple minutes break between sets.

Im doin 5x5 M W F, and doing sprints on tues, plyos on thurs, and longer sprints on sat then sun off.

I would not rush between the lifts. Take as much time needed between sets to move max weights explosively. It is after all a strength program.

Hit some BB complexes or row machine hitt pwo for extra conditioning.

^^I'd agree with southern, for what it's worth. I'm doing something similar and I need that couple mins between sets to really move the most weight. I used to do more reps/ lower weight with less rest and it got my heart rate up but my strength gains were minimal. It's made a huge difference doing it this way!

The complexes are a great idea..I was think a small hitt session too but it sounds like you've got the cardio covered...just go out and kill it! :)

I've done both linear and dual factor 5x5 and taking as much rest as you need is the way to go. On the dual factor I was taking 5 minutes between sets np. Strength was blowing up.

Just keep in mind that pump, fatigue, sweat or tiredness having almost nothing in common with actually developing strength.

Reading up on some old Doug Hepburn and Paul Anderson stuff their workouts would routinely last 1.5-3+ hours. They worked hard ie. lifted a high % weight, but they rested alot and did not fatigue themselves.

The hardest part of taking more time was getting my head around it. I'd sit there and time out the 2 mins and feel like I did more sitting then anything but I've set PR's for almost all my lifts since switching to this so I know it's working. ;)

Do BB/DB complexes or intervals(burpees,sprints,etc.).And between 5x5 sets ,take at lest3 minutes rest.5x5 is a strength program.
edit:i think your training too much.also lookout for joe defranco.you could learn from him alot.
