2006-08 VW Jetta: who has one/knows someone who has one?

i had one for a rental the last 3 days...was impressed with it. :)

BUT

i have heard horror stories about vdub's build quality and reliability; espically on models assembled south of the border. :worried:

is their an easy way to tell if a jetta is german or mexican assembled? a key letter or number to look for on the VIN strip, perhaps?

your thoughts/opinions/experiences, pls... :artist:

Had a friend with an 06, he loved it until he totaled it going too fast on ice. They are good cars from what I hear. he still hung onto the trunk emblem so I'm pretty sure he loved that car.

I have a 99 jetta with 130,000 miles, had a gasket cover problem that was a pain to have them fix. I have replaced most of the ball joints and bearings but the body looks great and people are impressed with how old but how nice the car still looks.

I bought my mom a 2007 Passat and she loves it. Only had one small problem with it. The plastic gas cap froze and cracked....which is a problem you will not have where you live.

They are great in the Winter here....decent on gas...pretty comfortable too. Most people forget that the newer VW's are built in a joint deal with Audi.

im a big fan of the interior of a car......vdub doesnt do it for me

for the price bmw/merc still has my pick

the interior was the first thing i admired about the jetta...very rich looking but restrained, classy in a quiet refined way...reminds me of the audi interiors that i cannot afford, dammit.

as for price....bmw doesn't have anything close to the price of a jetta.

STILL concerned about quality control and reliability 2 years down the road.... :worried:
