1 gram of protein?

I am confused by this. I know protein is great for bulking, cutting....generally good for everything. However, if you are trying to cut significant body fat (More than 15%; example from 35% to 20%) What amount of protein should be used to make a significant drop in bf%?

It makes sense in my mind to eat 1 gram of protein per lb.

The confusion is, Should 1 gram be eaten per lean lb, or total body weight? (Including excess fat)

Give it an honest thought and let me know your thoughts. Educate me.

My stats according to online BMI calculators say I am 30-35% bodyfat. According to my pictures that I will post in roughly 3 weeks, I believe every single bit of it.

(3 weeks I will be 1 month into my diet regimen and I want to show a day 1 to 1 month comparision to see if I am progressing.)

In advance, Thank you for your time and support.

Given your excess body fat, I think 1 gram per pound would overstate your minimial requiremetns - indeed, this is the conclusion in "burn the fat - feed the muscle". For example, it is hardly supposed that a 300 pound woman trying to lose weight needs 300 grams of protein to not lose muscle.

However, it may be that at 35% bf, you have insulin problems and are overly carb sensitive, so if you want stick to the 1 gram per pound formula and reduce your carbs.

Seriously, if you want to reduce your bf fast (and at 35% you can probably safely lose 1 kg per week without losing muscle) just stick with meat and veggies (and some non-fat cheese, and egg whites).

Yams, sweet corn, oatmeal, legumes and brown rice are all good for you, but I'd consider limiting these and just stick with veggies that are about 25 calories per 100 grams (best choices would be brocolli, cabbage, asparagus, spinach and other green veggies, but there are tastier options such as carrots, pumpkin, red peppers and onions that you can use to make the food taste OK and these are also low calories - a cup of pumpkin is only 30 calories, taste great and is filling). These foods will fill you up per calorie if you have hunger problems
