That is really cool that you try to do things just for yourself though.
I dont know, I've been trying to understand over the years how we are affected by the ideals of others. I must say that its tough to walk in the weight room and not focus a little extra attention on working out my arms and abs.
And would people really work as hard to be beautiful, if no one else existed?
Also its amazing how perceptions of beauty can be impacted too by others. Culture seems to have a role in affecting people's ideals. Or in our case, the fitness culture
How do you really know that your definition of beauty is truly your own? Dont we all tend to be influenced by things we see?
Our tastes change as we go through life. I once had a flawless body, busted my ass, dieted mad crazy and it didnt make me really happy the way that I thought it would. I enjoy positive attention from both sexes (who doesn't?) but it no longer drives me the way it did when I was younger and very insecure.
If I had the ability to look like I did 5 years ago - I so would. But I can not so for me to beat myself up chasing that is self-depreciating. Experience has taught me how to admire the accomplishments of others while learning to be happy with what I have to work with.
My husband LOVES the way I look now but if I wanted to (or even could LOL) go back to being so muscular and ripped as I was when I was competing then he would love me equally. You see... he loves ALL of me, inside moreso then the outside. Was very hard for me to find that in a mate. For this I will be eternally gratefull.
