I'm just learning about Contemplative Neuroscience now from reading Daniel Siegel (Mindsight) and Richard Davidson's (The Emotional Life of the Brain). I often have trouble retaining what I read which I've always attributed to stress and sleep deprivation.
The science is relatively new using fMRI (with the cooperation of the Dalai Lama) to observe neural mechanisms of monks with >10,000 hours of meditation practice in developing focus.
