I Feel Strong Today Syndrome

Today I had set a goal for clean & presses. I think it was 220x5 or something like that.

Anyway, I hit it, and still felt pretty strong.

WTF I say and we throw another 20 lbs on and I decide I am going to go for as many singles as I can get until my form breaks down even if I have to continental.

Mistake.

The first 5 or 6 went just fine, with me even doing some one legged posing so show off to the gym what a man I am.

Then I started getting a bit tired so I added an extra minute to my rest, and started to continental them.

I think I got about 10-12 more in. When I had another bright idea.

Add another 10 to the bar.

I'm having fun now, but things are getting a little harder. Not only am I continental cleaning, but I have now resorted to the split press to get them up.

I think I got 8 of those & decided it might be a good idea to quit for the day as I had definitely shown off enough for the gym.

Now here I sit, barely able to move almost 12 hours later. The soreness hit me so fast I almost couldn't bring my hands up to wash my hair after the workout.

I tried to scratch my back a while ago.

Didn't happen.

My arms don't seem to work right anymore.

Did I mention that this was all on a 2" axle bar?

My hands are so cramped up that I can barely type.

Just because I am old doesn't mean I am smart. I should have listened to the people who told me to stop.

Fuck. Tomorrow's pain is already scaring me.

LOL! This kind of pain sucks and is kinda cool at the same time. Did you set some PR's along the way or did you simply got back in doing it after a long break?
 
I haven't C&P'd since early June. I am 4 or so weeks back from being sidelined from all working out because of a blown cervical disc that I had surgery on 5 weeks ago.

My PR's for this are a bit higher.

I did 100 rep axle reverse curls Tuesday at the end of my session and now I have to use my left hand to move my right had from the mouse to the keyboard.

The soreness is well deserved my friend :) I haven't had a debilitating workout in a while.

You know you should really come up here to the great white north and train with us. I promise a wheelchair workout!

I'm beginning to think I am getting to old to play with the kids in the gym anymore. My buddy just called and said this weekend he is loading his 525 stone he just made. And he was the one telling me to stop. Go figure....

No video. It would just be of an old guy making an ass of himself anyway.

Here's what I think about how to improve your C&P.

1) Use an axle bar if you can. It improves grip and doesn't spin.
2) Use LOWER weight and really practice your explosiveness off the floor.
3) Take your time and get the bar and your feet set right before the press. This isn't a race.
4) Learn explosive leg drive into the press. Get that bar moving with your legs, and then duck under it. Getting this right will put 20 lbs on alone.
5) Lots of volume. I can't think of a more CNS taxing exercise than the C&P. You need to condition your CNS to fire right. Rippetoe calls this exercise "Gymnastics with a bar" and he's right. Some people also call this the 2000 rep exercise since it takes you 2000 reps to get it right.

I can do a 1k yoke...I just can't press worth crap!

My box squat has taken off lately, wish I could get my press to go up! I just can't figure that one out.

thats the type of pain that lasts along time. it did for me anyway. good work.
