Egg whites in your protein shake!

Ok ladies, you guys know how I am about food. Can't stand oatmeal, don't like drinking my supplements....I could go on and on.

So, I came across this recipe for a protein shake that called for 1/4 cup egg whites (container kind). Of course my nose snurled up but hey, a girls got to do what a girls got to do. In went the egg whites. Onebreath looked at me like I had gone off of my rocker. Perhaps I had!

Anywho, perfecto. Add them to your shake next time for a little extra protein (mixed with whey and you've got a perfect combination!). You'll find the consistancy is fantastic and of course you can't taste them.

I posted this recipe in the "Getting Healthy" thread. I don't think I mentioned to add whey protein - but add whatever powder supplements you take.

Drink up! I prefer a straw :chomp:

Wow! I was afraid you were setting yourself up for major fratulence!

As picky as she is about food, if she can handle straight egg whites, anyone can. I still can't believe she does it.

I will definitely give this a try. Thanks IW.

lol I've thrown a whole egg in there a couple of times, but definitely like the egg whites in it. It makes it kind of frothy.

You go girl! That is a little more advanced to me. Perhaps one day ;-)

As I'm sitting here drinking my shake I realize you are right, frothy is the right word!

If you hate oatmeal what about trying oat bran or wheat bran, both are much higher in fiber. I mix 1/2 cup of wheat bran and 1/3 cup of oatbran. Then I mix 1 scoop of protein in it and some udo's oil. yummy :)

my homemade protein/weightgain/post workout shake- 50g oats, 100g peanut butter, 6 egg whites, 2 scoops of whey and a litre of milk. mmmmmmm, frothy goodness.

I eat a homemade quinoa granola. Has a good nutrition profile and is nice and crunchy like I like it!

It is the texture that I don't like. Oat and wheat bran do the same thing to me :-( It took me forever to find an alternative. Now I am in heaven and don't have to feel guilty for not liking oatmeal.

interesting. I'll try to give it a go, don't know if i'll do it though. i did try the whole raw eggs thing before-the stuff never reached my lips.:chomp:

Another little tip, add in some powdered milk and you raised the protein count even more.

I Used to do that with Egg whites-until i found my true love (Muscle Milk)

when I was really paying attention to my macros, my PWO shake used to be where i tried to balance things out. I could never taste the egg, thankfully lol.

ditto. I love when I need more carbs :-) In goes a banana - or at least half. Bad, bad, bad.

How much sugar does powdered milk have? I think I have some at home - I'll give it a look. I bet it makes the texture superb. It is all about the texture!

I think powdered milk has the standard 12 grams of sugar per cup. It's lactose, but tose nonetheless!

My first meal everyday is similar to this recipe. For about the last year breakfast has been 16oz distilled water, 1 cup rolled oats (uncooked), 2/3rd cup of unflavored whey concentrate or powered egg whites, and one teaspoon stevia. Supplies about 45 grams of very high quality protein, 300 calories of low GI carbs, and essentially no sugar. I blend it on high for about 30 seconds and it comes out great.

I was curious to see how this was. So I just went and picked up some egg whites.
1/4C egg whites
1C water
40g vanilla whey
1oz agave nectar
1T ground flax seed
1T wheat germ
5g glutamine
5g creatine
2T instant dry milk
blended for 30 sec and drank up

This was actually really good!!
This was my post w/o shake.

A quick snack cake for me is.

3 eggs hand whipped, stir in some oatmeal and fruit like frozen berries
throw it in a big bowel that has been sprayed with pam , nuke it in the micro wave intill it rises and looks cooked,
dump it out and whola la, dont know what the hell to call it but it taste pretty good and is quick and eazy
plus its soild so it feels you up more then a shake.
plus you can cook them throw um in a zip lock bag carry them around with you and munch on them when traveling or out and about

I'll try this....

I'm no domestic goddess though - how much oatmeal? Are we talking about 1 minute in the micro or longer?

I just made this IW and used 40g of oatmeal , 1/3c berries(next time i'll use more)and a dash of stevia. Nuked for 2 min and turned onto a plate.
It's actually pretty good.
Thanks for posting the recipe

I mix the eggs with a whisp intill they are mixed well, add say half a cup of oatmeal wich is like 40grams dry , adjust the oatmeal for carb requirments

ratio should be around
protien 3 eggs = 18 grams of protien , protien in the oatmeal 5grams
23 grams total protien
30-35 grams of carbs , complex from oatmeal and simple from fruit
12 grams of fat with whole eggs , if you want it lower use egge whites instead of the whole egg and make it all most fat free

It is actually my version of a protien bar desert tasting thing, cost around 50cents to make each one maybe even less. Plus it is a complete meal.
When I was broke a like 10 years back all I could afford was 12 eggs a day with a gallon of milk and oatmeal for all my daily bodybuilding needs
milk was like 2$ a gallon and eggs 1$ a dozen oatmeal was cheap I would eat all weak on that then throw in some other stuff and still be under 30$ a week. No dinning out or anything fancey back then

back to the egg cake
when they cool off the make a spongey cake kiesh kinda thing eazy to carry with you hella cheap to make.
Plus they have to be digested so they are great for the metabolsim vs drinking just shakes that dont spark the metabolism as much as the digestion of soild foods

Your welcome, also you can add other stuff to them for some extra flavor , that what i do .
mix it up some

A good one is some strawberries with a few drops of vanilla extract for flavor.

A tastey one is throwing in some rasins with cinnamin for a breakfast tasting treat.

You can get pretty creative even mixing in some whey protien with the egg whites for extra protien

hey iron wings
I must warn you its not gonna be " a mouth watering desert kinda thing "

It just allows a person to eat their eggwhites, oatmeal and simple carbs (fruit) on the go, or a diff way if they are tired of shakes and want something with a " real food " texture that wont break the bank ether

Once you nuke it say 1-2 minutes depending on each microwave
you will know by looking at it it will rise prob double in size
dont worry it will shrink back down when done
let it cool and it will be a soild piece
of food allowing someone to take it with them in the car wrapped in a paper towel and eat it on the go, eat while they are walking around getting ready for work , eat with out spilling oatmeal drippings on their clothes in the moring.LOL you get the idea.

When i dont have anything in the fridge and its late at night i still whip one of these things up and dump alot of cinnamin and vanilla extract with it , taste good with a glass of milk

Anyone who thinks they don't like stevia should try Stevita brand before giving up on it. IMO it's clearly the best tasting. Look for the spoonable 16oz container online. It's hugely cheaper than buying those stupid teeny packets in the supermarket that run you like $6 for 4oz total.

Also, you gotta totally go cold turkey on the cane sugar mi hermanas, or stevia will always taste weird to you. I fricking love it now, but at first it had a weird aftertaste to me as well.
