Can you return a laptop within a week, at Best buy if you don't like it?

Don't you have to eat all organic foods, live in the city, green for the enviroment, drive a hybrid Prius ,to even own a MAC?

are they durable?
I don't really watch pron

Yeah Tseries is rock solid so is the Xseries don't touch the Rseries. I got a MAC in January other then looking cute really not that special. I got a new home PC in August it is HP I freaking love it and it was dirt ass cheap too. Best buy doesn`t sell thinkpads so no try and buy. The HP mini note is pretty cool if your just looking for a little webacces when on the road.

get a panasonic toughbook. :)

i mean, if you want durable.

They are overated to be honest plus there bricks. The tseries performed the same in most normal drop situations. Tough books are really only worth there while in enviormental situations high dust dirt factor etc. Besides most laptops now have a complete care warranty service which covers any kind damage even if your a dumb ass that runs over your own laptop.

Didn't buy anything yet
don't know if I should spend the cake on a luxury item
I don't travel alot
All I would need it for is, picture portfolios that I can take to clients house and do presentations with rotating pictures of our businesses workmanship.
Cutting edge
to mr and mrs smith

also just surfin EF

that's it

Velvett I love you there for I will not blast you for suggesting the 4 letter word piece oh crap. Also HP mini note is pretty much the same thing only a decent manufacture behind the product.

LOL

I know Dell right.

I didn't know HP made one.

Cool thanks.

What's your recommended computer company?

Notebooks I am really so sold on think pads T or X series only, for home really hard to go wrong with an HP there laptops have improved over the last few years as well but not as convinced on them as I am on Thinkpads and I get inncented much more to sell HP then Lenovo so you know that means something when I still recommend a Lenovo. LOL

most police departments use them, plus fire and construction.

Oh, my company sells them. :)

So does mine and they do have there applications but does not sound like Ortiz's needs would qualify for that application. I sell the best of what IT has to offer which is pretty much every other then Dell. I personaly sell over $300 000 of IT products per month so I think I am qualified to make a recommendation here and there.

Just buy an iphone, you will save some cash, have a sweet phone, be able to surf the web when you are away, and will slowly realize how much better apple products are.

Plus you won't have to carry around a heavy laptop and power cord.

You probably will be able to display your picture slideshows more effectively on the iphone over the laptop as well.

$449 ad today at best buy
AMD turion 64 X2 processor
2gb memory
160gb harddrive

Thats where you want to be.

As soon as you get a laptop uninstall everything on it. All that software they put on is crap.

You usually will have to fight with best buy to get these kinds of deals. Just get the ad in the paper first thing sunday and go to the store first thing. They run out quick and try and bait and switch you for some other bullshit thing with "support."

Decline anything additional that they want to sell you.

I used my first PC in the early 1980's. I had one of the first (6 mhz, not 8 mhz) PC-AT's made. I spent a summer installing AST 6-pack cards in PC's so our PC's would have a ludicrous 640k of memory too.

I also remember being immersed in a total PC environment in college. Then went on to use PC's exclusively professionally. Then even owned/ran a medical software company with client software that ran exclusively on a PC (server was RIS/6000).

Then my two years ago my daughter wanted a Mac because they were "pretty" and "fun".

Got it home, set it up in about 30 seconds. Fired-up first time. Found my home network. Found the printer/scanner. Hasn't had a virus or software problem since.

Then I messed around with it for a little while and realized: "Holy hell! That's Unix in there!".

I now own Macs for anything useful but my sons still play PC games on their IBM-compatible stuff.

Mac >>>>>>>>>>> PC

If this were a prize fight, the ref would have stopped it by now.

you sound defensive, but i wasn't arguing with you. i joked about what he would need for ruggedness. I know perfectly well that a toughbook would be major overkill.

btw, our sales people's quota is $400,000 per month (we sell all brands of IT equipment, not just toughbooks) and although they are all very smart, they know what they are told to know.

I was not getting defensive just stating my opnion and backing it up with some info you may not know. Sometimes it is hard to tell when your joking and serious. As that was not really funny haha or true hyperbole so maybe it got lost in translation.

A quota could be a millon dollars does not matter it is what they actually sell that counts. In the US we have guys shipping over a million a month the Canadian market is 30 times smaller then the US.

we don't sell direct to end users, except for the toughbooks, we sell through major online retailers. our sales people range- some just started, others have been doing it a while. so some meet the quota, and other's don't, but that's besides the point. i wasn't saying you were wrong, so you didn't need to prove anything to me.

One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't...

What I said is right. What everyone else said is questionable at best.

Well in all fairness, maintaining a mac is about 1/10th the work (my best estimate) of a PC. I used to enjoy swapping boards in my machines, debugging networks, looking at the microsoft knowledge base for "fix-its", etc. etc. Even getting bleeding-edge printers and scanners setup was fun. But now I just get the high-end photographic scanner out of the box, pick firewire or usb 2.0. Feed it a CD, and poof! It works.

how would u rate this laptop ... if size werent so much an issue .. most the the use will be for home ..

Dude get a macbook.
Configure - Apple Store (U.S.)

I have never met someone who complained once they made the transition, or go back for that matter.
Each has their own reasons that, but yeah peeps just stay.
I never in a million years would've even considered going mac, but my boss at the time got one 4 years ago and I would fuck around on it, and it was awesome. Since then, I have no desire to go back.
Keyboard is more comfortable, Graphics seem better, I know I'm repeating shit, but it holds true for the average consumer -me- just alot more intuitive. Just funner.
I realize to peeps who were not forced to use one, that it seems really stupid, and thats the way I thought but its not what U believe, its what u experience.
That line is actually Velvett's but I figure she won't mind if I steal it. lol

Okay I'm typing on a dell and have my macbook right beside me.
The graphics difference is huge. Now is it worth 1000 more, probably not.
Just sayin its such a better quality machine. IMO.
It is just a kick ass product.
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computers, so go with some one more technically proficient. I'm just listing the aesthetics and not the peformance. However, I have yet to hear someone do nothing but praise the latter as well.
Getting a solid HP or Dell is good too though. If you are going for value over quality, that is.

i think macs are better slightly .. but not enough to warrant overpaying that much lol

All I"m sayin, and I hate to be like the Dell douche of Mac's -he got busted for weed and lost millions, lol- Yeah, but anyway, it is quite a bit more expensive. However, the cuteness or aesthetic appeal is one thing, key comfort, the durability, unbelievable how much punishment they can take.. -skip analogy- the intuitive feel u get addicted too, so what happens is U go back to a pc and its so I dunno impersonal and cold. The proficiency is unmatched, -consult someone who is technically not a douche on this- Plunkey, would be good. Graphics... yeah, when I go to a pc screen I notice that I"m considerably uglier. j/k
Easy now, -I'm sensitive- LOL.
Once U get used to the sound quality, the overall ease and how it just seems to fit everything U do so much more seamlessly, U don't like going back to a PC. It just seems I dunno confusing and more useless data and settings to sift through. My ex would take my mac, cause she wanted to try it out, and we would trade, I would get her Toshiba, and I hated that thing. I so wanted to just fucking smash it.
Anyway, yeah it is a solid choice. With bootcamp, there is no reason not to go mac if you are looking for quality over wanting to be as frugal as possible. I hate identifying with commodities. However, this one I can't help but endorse. I'm not a maven, when it comes to my commodity choices, but this is one where I didn't get pwned. The only thing is, and this is so nothing... just a random observation... -hey its me, ya know?- the font is gigantic on the mac screen, and on the PC its tiny. Common knowledge probably to some one who isn't balls deep in ignorance bout this, but I am. So, in my face my font is ginourmous, but to most its not that bad... Which is kewl. I wish they had that setting in regular convo, so I would get the idea that my voice carries.
I know this is bout as nontechnical as it gets but, yeah I dig it much.

the key area mac was rated much higher was graphics by consumer report magazine .. even though it was rated the highest of all.. it didnt get the "cr best buy" stamp .. because of how much it was overpriced

Yeah the price issue is something that I think Fucking Jobs milks people for.
I mean it should not be that much more.
I can't definitely say that one should pay... up to 300 more for for the same capacity.
It is definitely not gonna be the best buy.
U can afford one though.
With all this sound planning, and the shit U plan to use it for, it is a personal item, that U will get attached too. Just sayin, lets be realistic and not platonic, U should invest in one. Yeah I don't like being this voice. However, I can stand by my own personal decision. I mean I had one stolen in June, thought bout savin some dough, however, after fucking around on her Toshiba and trying a Dell, yeah... no go there.
I can honestly say, that In my opinion, U will not be disappointed at all. In fact U will become more of a proponent than me. j/k
-well on equal ground anyway-

See, I can't argue with that, cause it is some serious dough... anyone know how much of a deficit we are talking though... just to clarify?

a macpro 17 inch which was rated 79 overall $2,900
next highest was HPdv7t 17 inch 72 overall $1,130

Thats pretty much the one I bought except with 3 gb memory and 250 gb harddrive....plenty of speed and bells and whistles plus mine was on sale for $499.

I got a MAC last year thought it would be there greatest thing ever not so much, I bought a desktop PC a few months back cause Citrix apps on the MAC were the suck,

let's make sure ariel see's this....you know, for the record.
Yeah just browsing though all that data there is alot one has to do to figure out those citrix issues with the mac.
I'm sorry bout that.
Can't dispute that.
Plunkey, sleep is for queers... -non gay sense- get up bish.

Running the citrix client or the citrix app itself on the Mac? I'm assuming you're talking about the Citrix client if it is on your laptop.

The client was fine it was the apps that were the problem. I could have called the help desk at work to get them to remap my keyboard to work but I was like fuck that I bought a MAC cause there suppose to just work. For most home end users I think there good but if you use a lot of PC apps then not so great just my two cents.
