dog people, what do you feed our dog

I buy mine cheap beef with bones from the grocery store. Not Anything with sharp pointy bones though. Also regular dog food... whatevers on sale. Mostly meat though

Dog food
 
Cheaper sections of beef, sweet potatoes or regular, veggies. No corn or grains of any kind. Don't feed leeks, kale or onions.

Im doing this grain free whitefish blend of dog food and the dogs breaking out in hives..
 
iams used to (dunno if they do anymore) use a preservative in it thats like 100 times an acceptable dose for people food because it is a known carcinogen.

yeah, the vet had her on zyrtec for a short...I guess its less side effects for the dog ..made a difference initially then stopped working

yeah...im looking at that now but wondering if it wouldnt be literally cheaper to try boiled meat and rice...I havent tried a rice based dog food with the dog
 
Raw typically will cost less than regular food. Maybe40-50/wk. ive got a big German shepherd so he eats alot. If your dog is sensitive or if u care for it's health, do not buy any food from a department store. If the first few ingredients have corn meal or chicken meal, don't even think do give it to your dog. Evo is amazing food. As is orijen

Cheap-ass pedigree dog food has been around for a long, long time and it will be around long after you are gone.
 
Yes because it's cheap and that's what most Americans want. Same reason there is Walmart protein and supplements and then very high end high quality products from reputable companies.

In humans we know organic, real, whole foods are much better for us than processed crap with tons of fillers and flavoring and colors.

Diet you don't tell them "ok for meal 2 you want 8oz of chicken nuggets, 2 cups spaghetti Os". (Trying to add humor to it)

When you supply the body with wholesome quality nutrition, whether it's a too athlete or fido, it can equate to the best health and results
 
And just because a dog Loves a certain food doesn't mean much. Hell u can give a dog kibbles n bits and Beggin strips and they're stoked.

You can also give a kid a Big Mac and fries and he's pumped.

Pay attention to the actual nutrients. We steer away from tons of fillers ourselves. So why feed your dog ground up chicken bi products and corn and other crap?
 
yeah, shes on 4health grain free whitefish formula now

honestly, her skin has never looked worse

I just gave her her enzyme bath, its anti bacterial and anti fungal so hopefully her skin will calm down
I noticed the water in the bath took on the tint of pollen so Im wonderin if that's the real problem
 
The 1/2 pound cheeseburger i ate for lunch with fries was fucking awesome. I think i'll get another one tomorrow

I'm starting to wonder this actually

the first type of fish blend food I fed her had rendered chicken fat as a preservative in it and I noticed probs...so I figured it was the chicken fat. Corn allergies are pretty common in dogs and there's been some connections drawn with chicken and corn for severely allergic dogs.

I get this stuff...wasnt too expensive, no questionable ingredients..and her ears and skin on her back started to act up. the ears I have under control. The enzyme ear stuff is the most amazing crap I've ever seen.

Then I read some other thing and it says only 10% of allergies in dogs are actually the food...


gah...if it makes no difference what I buy I'm ready to buy cheap shit but her feet are actually cracked and bleeding and came up clean on fungus and bacteria (this time)so idk what to do.

yeah honestly purina has been an independent company for like a bazillion yrs with no sign of going under any time soon and no colossal scandals..

lot of other big names can't say the same.
 
I forget to feed my dog for several days at a time. Yesterday I realized I hadn't heard it in a while, so I went outside to see if it was still alive.
 
If you can afford it just stick to raw diet, that's what I've done for our dogs. Haven't had an issue yet...knock on wood lol

As a person who deals with other peoples dogs for a living....

I cant believe the garbage people feed their dogs. Bullshit dog food with ground yellow corn, other garbage fillers with no health benefits or nutritional value whatsoever that just ends up in your lawn. Not to mention how many people think Lamb and rice is ok for their dog yet their dog keeps getting ear infections. Most dogs cannot tolerate grains, wheat, ect. Rice is a fucking grain.
Yet we take our dogs to the vet and the vet gives them drugs which are bad for them to try and bandaid the simple fact that you need a food change that has no GARBAGE in it.
If your pet has dry skin, goopy shit in its eyes, chronic ear issues(excess crap in ears, infections ect) ITS A FOOD ISSUE.
Stop feeding your pet what is on sale or what is cheap you fucking horrible fucking people. DAD's, IAMS, Beneful....its ALL garbage. You don't have to go waste your money on Blue Buffalo or shit that's $70 a 30-40 lb bag. Or the "special diet" bullshit that your vet only sells that they get a kickback from.
Something like Taste of the wild for instance. Only one I can think of off the top of my head.... Its like $45 for a 40 lb bag. First ingredient is meat. There is no shitty fillers.
Most of the shit you people feed your dogs is like eating mcdonalds every fucking day. Nice, considering most of you are supposed to be bodybuilders ect...
Even table scraps are fine if they don't get to over eat. Doont feed them bread, grains, wheat, rice ect.
If you cant afford to or refuse to feed your fucking dog food that isn't garbage then you shouldn't have a fucking dog.

BTW...if your dog has dry skin, patchy hair, drinks water like its going out of style....it has a fucking thyroid problem!!! It doesn't need fucking prednisone from your clueless vet.

When I see the changes good food makes in hundreds of dogs over time then yeah I know more about dog allergies and food than you. Stupid bitch. Having a vet tech working with me probably doesn't help either but wtf do I know. You are the dog expert. You deal with 2500 dogs a year?

Increased thirst and drinking bowl after bowl doesn't mean it has a thyroid issue. Its a sign that something is different. It means you should consider getting the dog checked for thyroid. Even diabetes in certain cases depending on other symptoms.

Excessive drinking is a sign if diabetes sure. My dogs drink tons of water and nothing is wrong with them...well I reckon the one is partially retarded but still lol

Who threw out ceasar Milan comment? Did I tell you to bring me your dog? I know what I know from years of dealing with the same shit over and over. Food, allergies, dog thyroid issues and diabetes. I don't treat it retard....but I know the signs and symptoms. Most pet owners are idiots. By that token most vets in my area are idiots too. If I can save someone hundreds of dollars in vet bills by recommending they change their food because 99% of the time its all that's needed then I must be an asshole. There is one good vet for every 10 bad ones.
Like the Chinese vet bitch down the road who told my client her dog doesn't have ear mites because DOGS DONT GET THEM. People like this should not get to give people dog advice let alone medical treatment. She refused to put the black mess of MITES I gave her under the microscope btw because dogs don't have ear mites.
