Cali's Summer Log

Time for me to put up or shut up! :)

I`m finally in a place mentally and emotionally where I think I can get back on a program and start training again. This last year has been hell as many of you know and God, what a ride! I`ve been on a journey of self discovery in the last few months and it`s now time to get back on the fitness wagon and get moving. I haven`t been this out of shape in several years!!

As some motivation, I have a show date which is 21 weeks away. Honestly, I`m thinking it`s not enough time but I`m going to use it as a driver. My main goal is to get my health and conditioning back. I`m starting to feel old!

I`ll be using the Max OT training program mainly because it allows me to lift heavy and it works for me time wise and I just like it.

Calorie targets are 2300 per day with a 50 - 30 - 20 split p-c-f.

Today is day 1! More details to come!

Good for you, Cali!!! For me, getting started again was, in fact, the hardest part.
I picked out a PL meet (my first ever) and have been training my ass off for it because it's a driver. So, while you may not be where you want to be as your end goal in time for your show, you're brave for having picked one anyway and just getting back to it, so good for you!
I look forward to watching your progress.
Keep us posted.

Good for you! I am looking forward to watching you.

I feel like its been so long since we've seen a chick log with calories above 1200 lol...it's refreshing!

You know I'm in my friend. Good luck to you!

God my first week in and I suck at log keeping! So, I'll give you a quick summary.

I hit my workout target minus one cardio session. My diet has been about 80%. I've hit my target of 2300 calories, although some of them have been dirty calories. I figured out I could eat 6 chocolate chip cookies last night and stay within target. Not quite what I had on the plan though! LOL

Overall, I'm down .8 lbs. Which isn't great but I'm ok with it. If I dropped most of my carbs, I'd be down about 5 lbs but it's all water weight and quickly comes back.

And, I'll be honest....I'm really feeling my age. It's been such a stressful week and getting back into routine...I'm tired and sore and feel like I'm 100. Remember this all you younger ladies! For me, it took to about 40.5 years old. I remember thinking, if I just stay in shape....blah blah blah...let it go for a few months and it bites you in the ass!!

All in good fun right?!? Stay with me! I'm a slow starter but a really strong finisher. Or so I keep telling myself! :)

Oh and I have to add...in case you're thinking those are crappy results....within another week or 2, my body will start performing better and all of sudden 2300 is not going to feel like much food at all AND the weight loss will pick up. It's a fascinating concept I always preach about and wanted to do a real live demonstration. I'll post up my meal plan later tonight or tomorrow.

My goal is to get to where my body is back functioning like a well oiled machine. I'd love to be one of those people who has conditioned themselves so well that they can eat at that level and only gain 5-10 lbs post stage weight. The reality is it takes time to do that. Even though I'd love to hit the stage in October, I know I won't be ready. I have to repair some of the damage I've done in the last couple of years and I don't have the commitment to jump into prep mode. I have too much on my plate right now.

I did exactly what so many women who post here have done....dieted super hard, gained a bunch back, overtrained, under ate, started something, binged, stopped, started again, researched thyroid conditions, gone for blood work, convinced myself I had some mystery body issue...and so on. I had none of that. I had poor consistency, poor nutrition and wanted instant results. It's not a quick fix and we can all watch as I try one more time to fix it.

Whew!

Does typing count for cardio?!? LOL

I am back on the horse! Again! Somebody shot my last horse! lol

Some of you will remember my bad break up/ douche bag diet. It's been just over a year. The man is certifiable and has given me sooo much grief. Who would have thought it would take me this long to put myself back together. I am usually not someone to start and stop so many times but I finally had to just recognize I needed some more time to heal and even allow my body to heal. I've been living in fight or flight mode for almost two years. I'm sure someone out there can relate!

With some time and a whole lot of personal work, I am currently on day 4 of....of something....of not eating like complete crap and actually hit the gym last night. I did a chest workout and day one of the Couch to 5k training program. I'm inspired by Ender (a member here) to start running. or some version of running.

The one positive thing I've accomplished is that I gave up diet coke and pop altogether. I was addicted and have been drinking stupid amounts for at least 20 years. I'm on week 15 of no pop. I've gained about 10 lbs though...apparently I used pop in place of food when stressed, anxious etc.

So...here we go again! :)

Looking forward to following your progress.
I've been into running for a long time, and over time...you'll grow to view it as therapy. lol (and not just ''cardio'') I find it pretty 'freeing.'
The couch to 5k programs are really good!

I'll be lurking, if that's ok. :) Hope you have a great weekend!

I'm one week in to a 6 week mini cut. I started last Monday. I want to train with one of my mentors and am FINALLY mentally ready to get back into it more seriously but I need to prove to myself that I can string together a few weeks of being consistent.

So far, it wasn't too bad. I made it to the gym for the target of 4 times, this week. I'm doing a 4 day split and then doing the couch to 5k training. It's 30 mins cardio on the treadmill and has a cool app that tells you when to walk and when to run. The idea is training up to being able to run 5k.

I'm still struggling with the eating and I definitely have to pre cook things. I kept the calorie range in the 2300 - 2500 (thank you night out at the patio lol).

It's really easy to fall back into old patterns and not so easy to change them up.

So week one summary...down 2 lbs! I'm happy with that. Hit my gym targets. Diet was maybe 60% so room to improve there.

I've changed my macros too and am doing more like a 30/30/30 with a few variations here and there to add up to 100. I thought I'd try higher fat and see what happens.

I woke up yesterday with this weird stomach thing going on. It's like the food gets stuck right at the top of my stomach and hurts and makes me feel like throwing up. I didn't eat much yesterday because of that. It hasn't gone away today and I've kept it at shakes so far. That's a bit better but I can still feel it sitting there...strange. I'm googling soup recipes because I can't get into my doctor until Wed. Who knows!

Overall, a good week. Today is a rest day for me. I might do a bit of cardio this evening outside if the weather holds. :)

Inspiring stuff :)

You have plenty of time to conquer this.

I'm 12 weeks out and its nice to read what another competitor is going through. Thanks for taking the time x

Thanks for stopping in and for the comments. What are you competing in? What category?? Great avi!! First one?

I know I won't be ready for October and will need to shoot for next year but that's ok. After my last show, I rebounded hard and have spent the last two years yo yo'ing and really have just made things worse. So...going nice and slow and once and for all, fixing the damage works for me. :)

Keep us posted on your show and your progress. I always get so inspired from others.

Update for Tuesday...I'm still having stomach issues today. I haven't been able to keep any solid food down. I see my doc tomorrow. Hopefully, it's just a weird flu or something but I didn't train. Good for shrinking the stomach I guess. :)

I had the same issue It actually got so bad I ended up in the hospital throwing up every 5 minutes I could not stomach any food and had a burn in my stomach and intestine region doctors looked at it and called it gastritis look into that and see if the symptoms sound like what you have if so they tell you to take an anti acid like Prozac for a few weeks and it went away

Thanks. It's strange hey? Even with a shake or jello or soup, I get this pain in my stomach and start heaving but forced myself to keep it down. I feel a little tired today so glad I'm getting it checked. I hate sitting in the ER or a medi center so suffered through till tomorrow.

Yup same issue I was having I would have jello and 5 mins later my stomach felt on fire and I couldn't not keep it down hope it's not bad news so you can reach your goal

Heya! And thanks for the welcome :)

IFBB physique. Yeah my first show.. Although I did do comp prep last year for the figure category but i completely Lost my shit couple of weeks out and nerves, stress, exhaustion and hunger got the better of me. Feel like I've been prepping for this one since then so it's a totally different lead in, a lot less stress. Sounds like you'll be in the same head space for next year. Physique couldn't have come at a better time, I felt like a "skinned bunny" for figure... Not exactly my forte.

Hope all goes well at your Drs appt :)

Sounds awesome! I am thinking physique too but I'm not sure I'll be muscular enough. I've just done figure but so don't fit the mentality either. Usually want to drop a few people backstage! lol

Well, I went to Dr yesterday and it wasn't clear. Likely, it's just some weird stomach bug but I had to go and do some lab work to rule out a couple other things. So he just said to carry on. Eat what I can and see what happens. If he doesn't call me by tomorrow, no news is good news. I can eat and keep down small amounts of soup and shakes but still get pain and nausea after.

I went to the gym last night and did a light back/ bicep workout. I made it through 15 mins of my cardio and had to stop.

I'm on day 5 of no real solid food. Feeling a little bit low today. I guess the good news is, it will help with the weight loss but a crappy way to do it and training becomes difficult. I shall carry on! :)

Hahaha. That's gold!!! Would pay to see that...

Yeah its all a tad OTT pageantry for me I'm afraid. Dunno how yall do it... Too much to think about fir this Girl. Hair, bikini or do-able but the heels had me fkd. Haha.

Was kinda a litle worried about not being muscular enough but then I figured f*#k it, won't know til I go. Just gotta keep lifting and growing :)

Damn, your stomach sounds like a bit of a mess at the moment. Here's to a speedy diagnosis & an even quicker recovery x

The heels were a challenge. And...not knowing much at that time about heels...platforms are way easier to walk in. Although, they weren't allowed at that time but just a little heel note for ya! ;) My first time out on stage, I almost bit it. Definitely lost points for lack of grace. LOL

So the saga continues...my Dr called and said I likely have a stomach ulcer. It does kind of fit with what I'm experiencing and with a lot of the lifestyle habits I've had for a very long time ie: overuse of ibuprofen, especially in the last year, it seems likely. There's a bacteria they can test for and treat too, that causes it. I'll go back next week and see what he wants to do. They can do other more intrusive tests but not always necessary and definitely not wanted!!

It still could be a flu but it hasn't improved and usually would start to in a week's time. So he told me lay off the coffee, any drinking and the advil. I gave up diet coke about 5 months ago, which could be another contributor. I was drinking stupid amounts of pop. So no coffee this morning. I am a caffeine addict and right now have a huge headache and am edgy. Good times at my house! LOL

I've done a little reading today on diet tips and am going to change things up a bit. Eating hurts! I have no appetite but I've been trying to get the most nutrients in with the smallest amounts of food. When I don't eat, my body hurts and I want advil...the never ending cycle....so, trying to be proactive!

It's just a minor setback but overall, pushes me even further in the direction of getting healthy, which is the ultimate goal. I've had major resistance to giving up coffee, even though I wanted to be free of that addiction and now I really have to. Small term pain for long term gain.

And...my weigh in Monday should be decent! LOL I just have to keep my nutrition up so I don't get sick that way. That is the challenge of the weekend. I haven't trained in a couple days and likely will go in the morning.

I got a light workout in yesterday. I'm on day 3 of no coffee. The headaches haven't been as bad as I thought they'd be but I'm in a fog! It's like everything is just a little bit off.

That being said, I'm down another 2.4 lbs today, making the total 4.4 in 2 weeks.

I've made some tweaks...no coffee, no dairy products right now and eating smaller portion sizes...still having pain and issues keeping food in but it's not quite as bad.

Making headway! :)

I trained legs last night and still managed to do my 30 mins of cardio after. I'm just finishing week 2 of the Couch to 5K training. It's a great app if you want to improve your running. C25K.

I'm SORE today! But it's great....that good sore where you know you've worked.

I have one more day of work and then I'm off for 10 days and excited to have more time to focus on diet and training and ME! :)

Nice! Glad you are doing so well.
💪😽😘

Today is the 3 week in mark and in all honesty, this last week wasn't great. Gym or diet.

I'm back on track today and hit the gym this morning. I trained chest today and hit my 30 mins on the treadmill. I have a wicked charlie horse in my left leg so just walked it, instead of the running. How did I do that? I have no idea!!

I'm about a week off coffee now and still struggling with energy. I've had a couple cups of green tea here and there but it must be an acquired taste that I haven't acquired yet. Blah! I'm really tempted to go buy one just to get a bit of boost and get some things done at home!! lol My stomach is feeling better.....you see the rationalization going on here. Ok, now I'm drooling thinking about it. ;)

My mid week update:

Tuesday I didn't lift but spent 2 hours outside hiking. It was great minus the mosquitoes!

Yesterday was a killer back/ bis workout and the start of week 3 of the Couch to 5k training. I have a huge mental block to running but this program is great and I'm actually progressing and running more each time.

I am SO struggling with diet. I don't want to eat anything I usually do. I think about chicken and blah! Oh but movie popcorn...YES! That sounds good! I've been looking at different recipes and things I could try just to change it up. It's the mental game for sure.

I'm on day 3 of drinking a medium coffee too. I can feel it in my stomach. I'm weak! I was so grumpy and said WTH...I'm buying one. There's my confessions of the day. It's so hard, once you lose your momentum, to get it all back. I'm not giving up this time though!! And I strongly believe that what you focus on is what you keep bringing into your life so really trying to focus on health and motivation and positive things and not be too negative or I spiral downwards and then quit!

Have a great Thursday!

Great idea! I do have a fb so I'll do that.

Hump Day Update...I'm 2 days into week 4. I didn't weigh myself on Monday because I ate like a horse last week and didn't want the mind F*&K.

I've had a string of great workouts over the last 5 days and am so freakin sore today. It's great though. The motivation switch finally went off and I've been able to up the intensity and am starting to find my groove again. So, little side note..that took about 3 weeks. Don't they always say it takes 21 days to form a new habit?

Today will be a rest day (I think) because I can barely move, although I'm away this weekend so had hoped to get my workouts in before I leave. We'll see how the rest of the day goes. :)
