Finally....getting the log up and going! Thanks, CB, for the extra motivation! ;)

I've spent the last couple weeks really thinking about my goals and my time lines etc. My main goal (although a general one) is to look smokin hot for my 40th birthday, which is June 2 (mark your calendars LOL).

I also want to compete again in 2012 and there are shows in either June or October. The June show is about 24 weeks out and October would be approximately 41 weeks. Sounds like a long time BUT...I have a lot of work to do. I would need just about every last minute of the 24 weeks to be ready to go in June or I can do it a bit slower and aim for October. I'm still on the fence. One of my realities is just deciding for sure if I will be able to juggle everything. Prep is all consuming and life has been incredibly stressful this year, so I just need to make sure I can logistically do it without sacrificing the well being of those around me and myself.

The short term goal, at the moment, is to do a 4 week period, putting me to January 21st getting my diet/ training organized. I will re-evaluate then where I'm at. I've taken 10 lbs off in the last few months and would like to get another 10 off in that 4 weeks and see where I need to focus and be realistic about the time frame.

I'll be posting details of my diet and training as I go. I'm currently doing a bit of trainer shopping. There's a couple guys I'd like to work with to do my diet but...they are well known natty guys and I'm not sure they'll take me on. We shall see!!

Subbed. And other than your son screw everyone around you. Do this for you. If it is all consuming so be it. As long as you are not neglecting your son put every one else's ass on hold. Get em Cali!!!!!!!!!

Thought I'd post up one pic..it's a couple months old after my last cycle but gives you some idea of where I'm at. I'm a little bit flatter looking right now but pretty similar.

Currently, the only additional supplement I'm using outside of the standard run of vitamins, omega 3's etc is GH at 2 iu's/ eod.

Thanks owl! You are one of my biggest motivators here and I'm lucky to have you subbed in. :)

Sweeeeeeeeeeet! So glad to see you chime in, girl ;)

How long u been on the GH?

You look terrific now, CG... I'm bracing myself for some serious results!

Dang ! You look good now and still have plenty of time to dial everything in, if you need help i'm always glad to offer my services i have over 40 yrs in this field.

Looking good sista!! Glad you started this can't wait to see you achieve your goals. I'm going to try GH maybe the end of next year ..

LOL..thanks guys and thank you Radar! I just might take you up on that!! You are all such great people and have really inspired me and helped me over the last few months!

Hit the gym yesterday and did legs. My workouts right now are all about getting back into a regular training routine post injury and post summer laziness! My 2 injuries of the year were lower back muscle tears and my tricep tear that I've talked about. I haven't been able to squat like a big girl or do any heavy weights. The pain has been from doing any motion like bench press, ohp, some of the side raises, cross overs, etc etc....so.....I'm just sort of trying out things I haven't done in months, keeping the weight super low and will be putting together a split from that.

I'm still having difficulty with my squat form but have been taking the advice I got in the weight lifting forum to work on it. I've been doing some foam rolling to help break down some of the scar tissue and increase flexibility in my lower back and hips and have just been practising the form. I'm good without the bar on my back but still having balance issues with the bar.

Diet wise....will be looking at 2000 calories with a 50/30/20 split to start. I may up that slightly but will decide in the next few days. I've been cleaning it up but would like to formally start a meal plan on the weekend. I'll post that up when it's done.

About a month, give or take. I was taking it every day but read a couple recent studies showing that GH levels were comparable in people who did it eod vs ed, so switched it just in the interest of making it last longer and $$. Everything I've read would suggest longer term results, so starting around the 3 month mark and more after so we'll see. Some people I've talked to love it and swear by it and others feel it's a complete waste of $$.

Subbed, looking forward to your results Cali!

Stero...Merry Christmas to you!! How the heck are you??

My show dates are the same as yours, my friend....we should be backstage together! An official EF competition meet up!! ;)

Thats because HGH is age dependent, the older you are the more you will benefit from HGH

Hey Cg. I'm so impressed to see you working a way round these injures chic. Zed and owl commented on me doing this duck walk thingy lol IRS really great for loosing up for squats and deads Etc. I will try find the post and copy paste it for you. Wishing you all the luck in your goals this coming year chic.

Heres the post Cg ....After watching your vid several more times you deff need to lower your hips more. So on your off days do this. Keeping your back as str8 as you can, drop down into a squat just like a baby does. For the first few time just hold that for whats comfortable.
But then after the first few times do it like this.
Drop down into a babies squat.
Keep your back str8!
Now take steps...walk! We call this duck walking.
This will help loosen you up fast!
Just do it for a few mins several times per day on your off days.

Then go over to the Deisel site and

Hey Cali!

So great to have your posts to follow. You inspire me. Try not to be too hard on yourself about speed of progress. I have found in recent years that no fast results are good results.

A lot of women have substantial sports injuries because of the way we lift. it's like we are going for respect on every rep. That's not a bodybuilding workout, though, right?

Lay the foundation now. Bust down what isn't serving you. I will be breaking my foam roller out today too because of your motivation! PT the crap out of those injuries.

I am truly stoked to watch the next chapter of your career unfold. Baby steps. Make em good!

You're up early....it's past 6am i rang the bell 12 minutes ago....this is boot camp so get at it...hut...hut...hut

You can do it. I just hit 39 a week or so ago. A quote that I live by now is the following:

Focus on you. Cut out the bs and the people who bring it. Only you hold the key to your happiness.

You definately can do this!! I'm right there with ya in shooting to compete this year. Hoping I can gain enough muscle for figure...if not, then may have to do bikini. I'm so darn shy though, hope I can do it without passing out on stage. I'll be following your progress and cheering you along!

Thanks Donna. I'm going to try these out and see if it will help loosen me up. Even just the dropping down and holding it should help to start. I've been really focused on fixing my arm the last couple months that I've not been doing what I should for my lower back so gotta get going on that too!

You're so right about being patient. I remember intially after 3 weeks of rehab treatments I was so depressed and here we are 8 months later. I have to remember that as I start to train again and really pay attention to my body.

The foam roller is amazing! Who would have thought!! :)

I love the quote! So true...it's amazing how simple life can be if you make it that way! It makes such a difference.

Thanks Lori! Anything I can help you with, let me know. I never thought I'd be on stage in a bikini and yet as shy as you are, once you walk out there....it's the best feeling!

I was hoping our country would bring in physique this year, as I'd love to move out of figure but I don't think we'll have it yet. Women's bodybuilding, here, where I am, is so variable. It's not necessarily about being the biggest (at the level I'd compete at) and if I could have great conditioning I may do that category but...I'm still thinking once I cut down, I may still be figure. We'll see!

Yesterday's workout was a focus on arms and trying out different exercises, mainly with the triceps, to see what I can do and what my pain threshold is. I did a couple biceps exercises too. Rep range was all 12-15 as the weight is light.

Tri pushdowns - 3 sets @ 60 lbs
Overhead Rope Extensions - 3 sets @ 45 lbs
1 arm cable extension - 2 sets @ 15 lbs, 1 set @ 30 lbs (only got 5 reps per arm here)
Kickbacks - 3 sets @ 12.5 lbs

Incline hammer curls - 3 sets @ 15 lbs
21's with bar - 3 sets @ 30 lbs

Incline abs with 25 lb plate - 4 sets to failure, which is usually between 17-20 reps

20 mins cardio, which was intended to be HIIT and turned into not HIIT!! But...still felt good to do it!

I also have about 4 other stretching type exercises I have to do every day, plus my date with the foam roller, where I look like someone who is special needs rolling around on the mats. I really need to buy my own!! ;)

Overall, my arm is pretty good today. I felt it on a couple sets last night but there's no real pain today. The next 2 workouts will be the test with shoulders and chest. I have another appt on Tuesday but he asked me to go do some workouts in between so he could see how it's feeling. So far, so good! :)

I have to post a pic of my new training shoes! I have officially joined the "club" for these shoes. My son says I look ridiculous, even though he owns a pair of black ones. LOL

I will just say that when you put them on, you're sold. They feel amazing in the weight room. I bought a pair that are intended for things like running but did not really like the feel of them on the treadmill last night, which is one of the reasons I didn't do HIIT. Maybe it just takes some getting used too.

Looking good in here cali. How did the tricep do? Feeling strong I hope. I can't believe you are training In vibrams. Lol

LOL..I know...could I be any more ridiculous?? Believe me...I'm taking some heat about them!!

but it just feels so good....;)

Tricep feels great! I did shoulders tonight and will get that up later but the shoulder/ arm is feeling good. Only a slight tweak when I did ohp but I kept it at 12.5 lb db....felt wimpy but kept it low. I think I'll have a bit of soreness on that side but compared to even 2 weeks ago, just lifting my arm up....it's much better!

I just got two pairs my self the trek and sprint. My friend says there is a comfort curve with them it takes time to get used to the feel. What one's did you get?

Your welcome Chic. I remember snipes said she got some them for her Bday she loves them , call me mad but I think there cool I can imagine them been strange to run in though lol.

I bought the komodosport version which is supposed to be a bit more for the running/ fitness. I've heard it takes some time to get used to them too for running in particular. They feel great just wearing them in the gym though.

I trained shoulders last night. It felt pretty good. I have a bit of soreness this morning on my left arm but it's feeling stronger. I don't have a shoulder issue but more where the tricep muscle connects into the shoulder capsule. It shoots the pain down the top, outside of my arm (which was where the bench press motion was causing pain). Really, though, I'm feeling sore everywhere because I've stepped it up this week!!! LOL

Again, super low weight, rep ranges between 12-15

Shoulder press - 3 sets @ 12.5 lb db
front raises - 3 sets @ 10 lb db
bent over/ side lat/ cable - 3 sets @ 15 lb
Upright rows - 3 sets @ 30 lb bb

Every day I have to do a couple other shoulder type ones too...

I do them both with 5 lb plates but I don't know what they're called. I think one would be called the internal rotation and the other one is similar but done standing, almost like a scarecrow with your arm out and bent at the elbow so you bottom half of your arm hangs down. Then you keep the elbow locked but raising it up and down. You see guys warming up with the movement all the time. I do 3 sets of each of those too.

And....last but not least...

banged off 20 mins of cardio on the treadmill running intervals, although would be more of a moderate intensity vs a true hiit. I walk one min, run two etc.

I'm feeling it today! My body is sore in places I haven't felt in awhile. Feels good but man, I need a nap!

Saturday is my official weigh in day! Stay tuned!! :)

On a shoulder note....all you experts out there....

I will be smaller on the shoulder cap - the very top of my shoulders. Are there any recommendations for targeting that specific area that you guys have found especially helpful?

Very nice workout chic! Slowly but surely you will get there were all baking you chic you can do it!!

Yeah that what my friend recommends for the gym to probably just take a little time.

Yes...that's it..

I would focus first on re-building a good foundation for the more aesthetic finishing touches. For example, in the shoulder I'd do internal and external rotation with cables to strengthen the rotator cuff. I'd also keep doing the PT. The delts can come up pretty quickly (I love plain old dumbbell presses and seated lateral raises, also cable lateral raises).

How long were you off, Cali? One thing that has really helped me lately is doing warm-up sets on every exercise... Even if it seems like a repeat. It means I have to put my pride aside regarding how much I can lift during my working sets but overall the results have been better and for once (fingers crossed) I am injury free at the moment.

Morning everyone..will write and respond more later this afternoon but...weigh in results.

Started the week at 179.2
This morning 173.8

Amazing what happens when you cut out all the late night pb toast! LOL

I know most of it is water weight and I can always drop big numbers the first week of trying to clean it up BUT...I'll take it!! Gives me further motivation to keep going and dial in the diet where it needs to be.

I will be eating tonight, however, and am ok with it! It will be within reason but I'm not going to get too stressed if I eat extra calories today. There was a time when I'd be having a panic attack and guilt up the wazoo but I'm giving myself permission and am going to enjoy the day. That being said, I'll probably make a couple "clean" recipes and disguise them as regular stuff for everyone else. :)

Happy New Years! I'm off to the gym!

Happy new year Cg looking forward to following your progress in 2012.

Just a quick update...I have had a crappy last 16 hours!! Geez!! Nothing like starting the new year off with a bang. I probably shouldn't even be updating now because I'm not in a great headspace and you all don't need my log to become my therapy session!! Part of getting my training program back on track is getting rid of the drama and baggage that has been my on/off relationship of the last few months. It started coming to a head last night and ended this morning...badly. It's one of those things where you know it's for the best but it still sucks and I feel pretty beat up emotionally. The good part is we've had a lot of time apart recently and I know I feel overall happier without dealing with all his chaos on a daily basis. I thought there was some hope but I think I was wrong.

I did hit the gym both yesterday and today.

I trained chest yesterday and will post that workout up in a bit. Today I just did 30 minutes of lackluster walking on the treadmill and another 20 awesome minutes in the steam room. That was the best part! My chest is really sore today and I am really feeling it.

Sorry for the vent!

Thanks CB. Definitely agree on the warm up sets! I was off for a few months (from regular lifting) and then some hit and miss over the summer, going back to a regular routine in September but about 3 weeks in, the pain started.

As much as I'd like to compete, I may just focus on rebuilding now and losing some weight and getting back into it, maintaining that precious injury free status. We'll see how the next few weeks plays out.

Cali!!!

We are so much in the same boat and I didn't even realize it til u just posted this part!!!

I'm turning 40 in may! Competing for the first time the day before my birthday. :) from past posts, you mentioned that our stats are similar. Holy crap! They're REALLY similar!!! I start dieting tomorrow and I weigh 177! It's like youre my virtual twin!!! Lol :)

This weekend, I've allowed myself to eat anything I want coz the hell is just about to begin, so I'm getting it all in while I can!!! :) fritos, cookies, candy, spaghetti, pizza. I have hogged! Hahaha!

Cardio sessions start Tuesday. I hope I drop weight like u have already!

And I, too, have a nagging injury, although not as bad as a tear. I think I have carpal tunnel in both elbows, making it painful to do anything with my arms, which is just about everything!!!

We should periodically check on one another since we're doing the same shit. :) I hope your week goes better!!!

you'll find Mr. right when you least expect it.

Hey Cali! So glad to have your posts to follow! Cant wait to follow your progress!! So when are your competition dates again? So excited for you! You can definitely do this!! So how are your injuries?

Merry (late) Christmas and happy new year!!

Nice, girl... We are all here for you. Let training be your release. Learn how to prioritize your own health again.

Take care of your physical, spiritual etc... Every day is a new beginning. New Year didn't start off right? Guess what? You get another crack at it tomorrow ;D

"See" you at the gym ;)

FC..that is so cool! I was really excited to see your post and you're right..we are basically virtual twins!! Let's rock this 40th birthday stuff!!

Let's definitely keep each other posted.

The weight will come off for you..I always drop a lot the first two weeks but it will slow right down and then I'll have to work a lot more at it.

So cool to compete the day before your birthday. I'm looking at 4 days after mine. Keep me posted! :)

Its all good cali that's what these things are for sometimes. Sorry to hear about all the BS drama I say fck em lol. It looks like your handling it the right way get in there and KTS use it for fuel........

Thanks Johnny. I'll definitely be using it in the gym. I just have to ensure I am no where near a whiskey bottle!! ;)

would it help if i said you don't need a life long commitment of BS and Drama, you're better off!
you'll find Mr. right when you least expect it.

Thank you Radar. That did help. It's rough in the moment but I know you're right. I feel like I've lived a lifetime in the last 8 months and it's not worth it. Life is too short! Sometimes it's hard being alone but I've always said, I'd rather be happy and single, then with someone and miserable. So that is where I need to focus.

Hey Cali! So glad to have your posts to follow! Cant wait to follow your progress!! So when are your competition dates again? So excited for you! You can definitely do this!! So how are your injuries?

Merry (late) Christmas and happy new year!!

Thanks Jen!! Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you too! My show dates are either June or October. Injuries are doing fairly well. I've been training but keeping it low weight and I haven't had too much pain so I'm feeling really good about it.

Nice, girl... We are all here for you. Let training be your release. Learn how to prioritize your own health again.

Take care of your physical, spiritual etc... Every day is a new beginning. New Year didn't start off right? Guess what? You get another crack at it tomorrow ;D

"See" you at the gym ;)

xo, CB

PS this post sounded like a fortune cookie! Lol

LOL..I always liked fortune cookies. Thanks for the kind, encouraging words. Means a lot to me. :)

My chest workout from Saturday:

Bench press - just used dumbbells to gauge pain threshold. Bench is one of the big ones that caused pain.

2 wu sets - 15 lbs/ 12 reps
17.5 lbs/ 12 reps
20 lbs/ 10 reps
20 lbs/ 10 reps

Flat bench flyes

2 sets at 12.5 lbs/ 10 reps
15 lbs/ 10 reps

Incline press

20 lbs/ 10 reps - felt a tweak here in my arm so lowered the weight
2 sets at 17.5 lbs/ 10 reps - felt ok here.

3 sets of "around the world" (I think they're called that)
7.5 lbs/ 10 reps

Finished the workout off with 20 mins of intervals on the treadmill.

It's two days later and I'm still sore in the chest area. I've had no lingering pain and my arm is feeling pretty good.

Sure some is water but not all of it kick ass work girl :)

Thank you, everyone, for your positive words yesterday.

I woke up today feeling a mix of anger and sadness and after sitting in my bed for an hour and feeling sorry for myself, I signed on here and found more motivation. I'm going to go and work it out in the gym. I'm more determined then ever to get healthy and happy and achieve my goals. On the intellectual level, I know this is a good thing. I have to keep the bigger picture thinking going!!

So..my short term goals for the day are to get to the gym and get my diet finalized and on paper.

In the words of Arnold....I'll be back!

Cali.... you are a strong and independent woman. You have raised a son. You have competed in bbing. I am not trying to be insensitive at all here but you know me girl. Buck up and move the hell on and get with it. That is all. We are here for you.

Yeah Cg chin up chic. Look at all the support you have here we all think the world of ya and you can't "rant" any time you like we are here to listen and support ..donna

Get it, girl!!! :). We will kick the shit out of 40!!!! Yknow here's some perspective for ya: 2 years ago, I said I wanted boobs for my 40th birthday. After I realized how much that would cost and that recovery would take me out of the gym, I changed my mind. And picked this asinine dieting and working out shit. Did I make the right decision??? Lmao!!!

LOL...tough call hey?? I've thought about that too. Although not so much for size but for gravity! Now we can just do the smoking hotness for our 40th! :)

Ok...I'm a day behind in posting but did legs yesterday.

Squats - I've been struggling with flexibility in my hips/ lower back and have been doing the duck walk minus the walking. Just getting down in the position but trying to hold the squat form. I'm still having issues doing it properly in the cage but am practicing. I've been foam rolling and am gonna see my rehab guy on Thursday for some extra help.

I did the rest of the squats with the Smith machine. ATG form!

2 wu sets - bar only
50 lbs - 10
50 lbs - 10
50 lbs - 10

I did these really slow and really focused on form. I tried to do it as if it was in the cage. Not a lot of weight but boy did I feel it.

Incline Leg Press/ Calves - superset calves here.
Legs were 3 sets of 10 @ 180 lbs
Calves - 3 sets of 20 @ 180 lbs

SLDL
3 sets @ 70 lbs - 10 reps

Seated leg press - I do 1 leg at a time, foot placed high to work the glutes.
3 sets @ 55 lbs - 10 reps

Finished with 30 mins of cardio.

My lower back is sore today, of all things. The new shoes are pretty much broken in and running on the treadmill doesn't feel quite so weird now.

Yeah Cg chin up chic. Look at all the support you have here we all think the world of ya and you can't "rant" any time you like we are here to listen and support ..donna

Thanks Donna and OWL. I really have come to love this forum and you women and guys are great! I'm much better today and am moving forward! :)

Today was a rest day. It wasn't a planned rest day but just sort of worked out that way.

I had my appt for checking in on my arm. The guy I see is actually a chiropractor who specializes in sports injuries with a technique called Active Release Treatment. It's painful but sure helps. I got a good report and am now up to 3 weeks between appts for the arm. I'm going to go Thursday to get a bit of work with my lower back/ hips....get rid of some of the scar tissue there. I got the go ahead to try out things like dips and push ups. He just said he wants me to do bench dips and keep the rom fairly small, to start. For push ups, he wants them done off a higher surface, like a bosu ball.

It was dips that got me in the first place so there's a little fear there but I won't be doing real unassisted dips and only one way to test out the healing!!

Very encouraging! :)

I saw my parents today and they both told me they could tell I'd lost some weight. Felt even more encouraging!! :)

That's great news you must be stoked!! Well safe to say I'm 100% praying that r
This year is going to stay injury free.

LOL..no, I promise..I really rested on the rest day! I was just a day late in logging my leg workout. ;)

Thanks!! I hope you're hanging in too.

My son is doing well. He's just at the end of the 2 weeks off for Christmas break and has been a giant lump on the couch! lol

So...my update for today.

I trained back yesterday and got in 30 mins of cardio too. I left my sheet out in the car and don't wanna go back out so....it was back day! LOL

My shoulder was sore yesterday from the treatment. It was more of a deep bruise feeling, which is normal after a harder treatment. I went again today for some work on my hips and lower back. He said I don't have really much scar tissue there and it's more just decrease flexibility from injury and age. I got some new exercises for stretching it out and felt some relief. He suggested I try squats with a ball against the wall. Just for form and practice.

I learned something new in the gym yesterday though. I learned that wearing the Vibrams shoes, combined with lulu pants with boot cut bottoms, can lead to accidental toe on pant leg connections, which leads to me tripping myself in the gym and looking like a complete moron!! Ahhh....good thing I can laugh at myself (because it turns out everyone else is too)! ;)

I still have not achieved my goal of getting my diet together. I'm currently on the "My ex is being a douche bag" diet plan....macros set at 50% BS, 30% drama and 20% stfu!! My appetite goes when I'm super stressed but I'm working through it and will be on track soon. I'm feeling a lot stronger and determined. Just been pretty tired the last couple of days.

I did buy a new cookbook for some new ideas for eating. In trying to put together a diet, I was just cringing at the thought of eating all the same foods so hoping for some variety. I'll be sure to share as I try things. :)

And....just in case...please read this post with a smile as I'm writing it with a smile. I can be slightly sarcastic at times and it doesn't always translate across the screen. :)

HUMMMMMMM NO and i better be the 1st one to get them....

But by decivering you comment i believe im not the the 1st one :worried:

lol..I was just joking..the only before pic I've put anywhere is earlier in the log. I'll send you a couple from Christmas but they aren't super clear...taken at night, outside on a skating oval up here in the great white north!

I have been on that plan, Cali! I think the way off it (when you're ready) is to realize that we get to pick our mealplan, no one else is "making" us eat. Just like no one makes an alcoholic drink. It's the disease.

I was stressed last night and let it mess with my food. I get it. And going through that kind of breakup is devastating... It takes the wind out of your lungs. We need that wind for the cardio!

I posted about this yesterday, but sometimes it helps to have a default plan to resort to when the rest of life is chaotic. The structure created even by just a daily post in here helps me stay on track. Journal away. Don't let the CnC fools (I say that with the utmost fondness) mute any of it for you.

Why do we date these DBS? I dunno, but I know we won't figure it out while continuing the behavior. Better to date these DBs (see below?)!

I'm happy to be a sounding board for any of this. You have so much support here. You are a role model for so many here (no pressure!). Remember the water on the rock. Guess what... We are the rock.

You are so much tougher than you know.

xo

Thanks CB!! I appreciate the words. I'm doing pretty good, all things considered but just need to get that structure in place..the default plan you speak of. I love the DBS...that gives me a great visual to picture!! We are definitely the rock! :)

P.S. I would love to have "the rock" lol ;)
