We just had a pretty big earthquake in the Washington DC area

I was totally freaked out. There is a guy who works here who has a trained dog and flies off to places like Haiti and Japan when earthquakes hit so I just followed him.

There were lots of people on the sidewalks, cell phone networks jammed up, etc.

Pretty cool site on the data about it:

M5.8 – Virginia

wow

felt it here in northcentral pa...computer screens were shaking all over the place...looked outside and the utility lines were swinging back and forth...definitely the strongest one i've ever felt here in my life.

i'm sure it was a lot worse for you when your horses were pulling covered wagons

5.8 is not a big earthquake by any stretch of the imagination, but the fact it happened in the north east is unbelievable

well..magnitude/intensity is broken down into 6 categories:

1.0 - 3.0
3.0 - 3.9
4.0 - 4.9
5.0 - 5.9
6.0 - 6.9
7.0 - greater

so, 5.8 to 6.0 (which this one was) isn't a sissy one either.

indeed, I dont think I even remember a significant quake hitting that area... if it ever happened hre in FL I'd flip out, even thought I've been in 6.8 ones...

WUT.......is Digi like one of dem sophisticated mennonite ngrs.......with his fancy AM radio and electric windows?

Friends in Brooklyn felt it pretty well, didn't feel Jackshit in Manhattan.

If you had some advanced notice you could have set up a turn table and threw a dope earthquake party at the top of a skyscraper or something
Feel the vibrationzzzzzzzz boiiiiiiii

I was driving within ten miles of the epicenter when it happened and didn't feel a thing lol

I love how people make a big deal about something that basically amounts to nothing. I stopped for gas about 20 minutes afterward and saw a bunch of people running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Yet there was zero property damage, zero injuries. The only reason I even knew anything had happened was because someone there accosted me within seconds asking me if I'd felt the quake.

btw, not saying it's not noteworthy, but the people who got all tragic about it like it was serious business and they were traumatized make me lol

its like when it gets cold enough for some snow to fall in austin, whole town shuts down lolllll

Lol sounds like down here when it snows. People act like its a blizzard but the snow doesn't even stick to the ground.

Cars are in the ditch everywhere.

I still remember when I moved to austin everyone made a big deal about a snowfall that had happened in feb. When I finally saw pictures of the snowfall, it wasn't even enough to cover the tips of the grass.

When did you live here ?
Bishes were out in their yards taking pics of the gutdam ice and snow on their yard. lollll

I've knot experienced an earthquake before, though I've been told "you rocked my world" on moar than one occasion.

just sayin'

exactly. jesus christ we're gonna have to hear about this GD earthquake for the next few weeks all over the media. how annoying.

lol @ 'pretty big' earthquake.

Im nowhere near it but from the feel of the media coverage i would expect windows to have been shattered at minimum.

The F are you talking about? Walls and chimneys fell down as far as Baltimore.

I'd think it was pretty clear I was talking about the truck stop area where people where flipping out. There wasn't even a bag of chips on the ground and I was no more than thirty miles from the epicenter.

srsly... some people felt it all the way up here in Montreal. One woman called the radio station all panicky, worried about aftershocks. :worried:

the fact of where it happened is crazy!! the infrastructure is not set up for quakes like here in Cali, so even a little shake like this one could create major damage.

That being said, your best bet is to just buckle up and enjoy the ride!
