I read that series years ago. Probably stopped after the 5-6th book.

It was pretty good if you're into neckbeard fantasy novels for situations where you can't bust-out the Dungeons & Dragons set.

But it's done very well in typical HBO style. Even nonneckbearders can appreciate this show

boardwalk empire is awesome no doubt...but this show seems a lil slow to be honest..ill keep watching it so hopefully gets a bit more exciting
 
I really had high hopes for Game of Thrones and I'm giving it a shot but for the production quality (it's beautiful) I'm disappointed so far (I never read the books). It's draggy, the story needs to pick up. It's like they're so proud of how great it looks they don't want to clutter up the scenery with dialogue :(

On the other hand I thought Starz doing Camelot was stupid and boy was I wrong there. Excellent so far, really enjoyable.
 
i don't find it draggy at all. i think the whole thing between the starks and the lannisters is pretty enthralling. plot twists like the incest thing between them, throwing the boy off etc then trying to kill him again. that's pretty crazy

besides, almost all shows start off with character development. it's only the third episode.
 
Yeah, really liking this so far. I foresee much backstabbing and weirdly hot young blondes getting nekkid often.

It could be me, I fully admit it. Check out Camelot if you can, see what you think comparing the two.

See, I didn't like Boardwalk Empire or the Tudors, either, but I did like the Sopranos, Dexter, Big Love (except for this last season)... like I said, I'm still on the fence. My biggest problem, currently, is they alternate between virtually whispering and shouting, I can't hear WTF they're saying most of the time, and there are SO many characters I'm losing the plot.

also,game of thrones is nowhere as complicated as some other shows. you basically have the two families + the king... and then the other people across the sea (the two blondes + the wulfgar savages)

don't get all crabby MM

my point is that boardwalk empire was a fantastic show, objectively speaking. It's been nominated for a billion awards and you have freakin Scorsese and Terrence Winter involved. The acting is amazing, and so is the cast.

It's one of those things where no matter what your preferences are, if you know how to objectively analyze art/film/music/whatever, you can say it's a masterpiece.

This show continues to be badass. Between the Wulfgarian dude pwnting that n00b with the melted gold to the 10 minute long scene of the two whores fingering each other, there's really nothing as good on TV right now.

Until Breaking Bad returns, at least.
 
I started reading the books. Got though the first two then wiki cheated on the 3rd and 4th. Definitely regret that but was so curious to see what happened. Looking back it was better to see it unfold on tv even if it meant waiting a long ass time lol.
Martin or whatever (the writer of the series) pisses me off

If you follow the story line you will catch the fact that the man she is fucking is not really family. As figured out by reading the lineage in the book .. watch it a few more time my man you will get it. :biggrin::biggrin:
 
Yeah I got that after the episode 2 weeks back where Lord of the Rings was reading that lineage book out loud for the audience.

It's NOTHING like lord of the rings other than the actors having English accents and fighting with swords. There's also not as much black and white in terms of pure evil/pure good. Theres no unification against one common enemy. characters are more complex. One guy also doesn't fight 1000 orcs or enemies and not get scratched. Characters die

There's also no sex/incest/political backstabbing/extreme violence in LOTRs.

You gonna compare Corky Romano to the Sopranos next?

eh, yeah i have watched it....and i thought it was pure shite :)

the fact that sean bean is playing a similar character in both,in the same setting ,with dwarves ,sword play ,sorcery and all that kinda thing justifies the comparison...and like i said IMO.

Im not a huge fan of LOTR. it is a great book and good movies came from it .

Obviously the budget for LOTR was massive and i think it makes game of thrones look like a weak spin off - and yeah i know neither story is related.

I think you misunderstood. Jaime lannister really is her twin. The lineage reading was ned stark figuring out that the boy (geoffrey) couldn't be the king's son because all the king's bastard children had black hair. He was realizing that the children Cersi claims to be king roberts children are in fact children born between her and her brother.

This last episode was a good one. I find my self hoping a large army of some kind shows up to help the starks out. So far it seems Tyrion Lannister has recruited the wood hicks to help out his fathers army , lady starks sister is lending no help, and the shit is about to hit the fan with the North armies outnumbered big time..

I just wounder how much the show is going to change as apposed to the books. If memory serves me Barristan Selmy Is not just going to fade away after the bitch queen strips him from comander of the knights guard. We will soon see him teem up with the princess Daenerys Targaryen.

ANyway I will try not to give away the endings or to much of the story line to you guys. If the show is anything like the book this should be one hell of a fucking show. And it could go on for many seasons if they want it to. It is a damn good fucking show for sure.

Bro you have no Idea what you are talking about man. The show is based off one of a series of novels written by George R. R. Martin's called A Song of Ice and Fire. This show " game of thrones" is but a fraction of the books. In fact the novels this show is based on are not even finished yet and the author is still writing the last book do to come out in 2012 from what I know.

I highly doubt you cant respect this authors work. I have read all of the books and so far I would have to say this is the best depiction of a novel I have seen. I read all of Jr tolkens books from the hobbit to lord of the wrings ending and I felt the movie was absolute crap capered to the books. All this done with 100 times the budget they have to work with on Game of thrones no less.

Trust me as this show Gaines popularity and the budget for it grows this may very well go down as one of the most acclaimed screen plays HBO has ever had a part in.

SO although you may scoff at the show you might as well get used to it bro. Because you can bet your ass this is going to be huge for HBO. It already is ... They have already agreed to a second series after this one and from what I have heard are already in talks for a 3rd series in popularity commands ( which IMO popularity from here on out is only going to grow).

Shit they are already talking about video games for this.

I'm curious if the ending at the last one (no spoiler) is a psych. I don't think they would do it, and they didn't actually show it.

Anyone catch the finale? Played out almost exactly like the book (minus a few things)...although it was fuckin bone chilling seeing Ned's head being picked up and his body dragged away. same thing with the spikes. It's one thing to read that happening, and another thing to actually see it.

The whole scene with Arya pretending to be a boy doesn't happen till the very beginning of the 2nd book, but i guess they didn't want to leave people hanging like that. Also, that Bard never actually got his tongue cut out. in the book Joffrey gave him a day to decide...and they never went back to it. The whole fuckin weird scene with old guy and the whore wasn't in the book either. i dunno wtf they'd add that? I was loling and cringing at the same time when he was limbering up afterwards.


btw, if you like the Imp now...you'll love him even more later on
 
Fucking DirecTV was out for the whole second half of the day yesterday, and because its serviced through our building DirecTV themselves couldnt help. Called our tech guy, Miguel, but apparently there was a soccer game or swap meet or something because he didnt get back to me. Had to d/l this shit today and watch it.

Sad to see Wulfgar go. Fucking naked blonde hot chick is gonna pwnt some n00bs with those dragons. I hope midget's dad doesnt die (ie the dude from The Golden Child) cause hes fucking legit.

so...i finished all 4 of the books that are out(the 5th one comes out in 2 weeks after 5 years in the making). I speed read through the boring parts, since all the books are long as fuck (like 700-1000 pages each), and the last one was a chore to read. Sucked compared to the other 3, but still not bad. The first 3 were amazing. Keep in mind, i NEVER read fiction. That's how good these books are.

Shit gets fucking real. can't wait till they put it on screen

I've rewatched some of the episodes since and it's amazing how many little hints, subtleties and foreshadowing there is. It's almost like watching it for the first time. There's so many mention of characters that you don't see till much later on.

I love this fucking series.
