I love motivational bodybuilding stories, and I recently saw a good one involving a 72-year-old man named Ray Lavelle. The divorced father found out he had a heart problem in 1996, and he was determined to avoid dying young like his mother (age 53) and his brother (age 42).
However, it was hard because Lavelle felt pain in his chest every time he coughed. He started out with some light walking, and gradually began walking more and more every day. Eventually, Lavelle took up weight lifting as a means of adding muscle in addition to the light cardio work he was doing. At one point, Lavelle was bench pressing as much as 250 pounds, which is incredible seeing as how he was in his 60's.
Lavelle has curbed the heavy lifting somewhat lately, but he still maintains a good physique through bodybuilding. All I can say is that I hope I'm still bodybuilding at this age!
