the doctor wants to put my gf on zoloft. she has anxiety and gets kind of angry but she is not depressed. i thought this was a medicine for depression. i think she just needs a benzo like klonopin or xanax when she has a bit of anxiety or is very frustrated. any input is appreciated, should she try it or what? how long does it take to clear if she finds that she does not like it? also my biggest question is will it fuck with her libido. thank you all. i know this is the roid forum but i know you guys

doctors don't put you on benzo's because they are addicting. and the only replacement for benzo's is more benzo's. anti-D's have many other uses than being strictly for depression. if she's reached that stage, there's prolly a good indication that she needs them.

and i'm going to save you from having to read a bunch of different posts from guys who are going to push the dope they're on. everyones body reacts differently. it might take her a year to find a compatible drug. but it's trial and error. and yes, her libido might fade a bit, but it will come back to normal, once the drug has sufficiently saturated itself into her system.

ok cause i take klonopin and i do not feel addicted. i take it when i get anxiety or severe stress and ive done so for 6 years safely. i agree most guys abuse it. she is just so not depressed that it seems weird its just the worrying and thinking about things too much

wel, doctors typically are guessing when they prescribe psych meds. it's best that she sees a shrink, if she isn't already. klonopin are a it different than xanax. xanax are almost evil, because you constantly have to take more. i went to taking .25mg a day to 1mg over the last 8 or 9 months. and it makes my moods swing wild when i do & don't take it.

Check the Zoloft website. I beleive they can answer your detailed questions there.

It's a known fact that Anti-Depressants have an effect some peoples Libido. Notice, I said "some peoples". Not everybody is affected the same. This drug can be prescribed for depression, anxiety or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's a drug under the catagory of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Meaning, the reuptake of Serotonine is blocked causing more Serotonin in the brain which demonstrates a "good Feeling" etc... Check their website for more info etc...

my personal experience with zoloft wasnt very good. It made me feel like a zombie with no emotions whatsoever compared to other meds i've taken. I'm currently weaning myself off lexapro. I hate the fact of being dependent to get through situations. Personally i'd buy her some oxycalm and try to deal with it on her own or go to counseling before hopping on a drug to take care of it. Oxycalm works pretty good for me. My anxiety and frustrations are mostly fueled from work. Its all how you deal with situations. Hope this helps.

I wish it made me like a zombie, didn't do shit for me and actually amplified my OCD. In regard to your comment "Its all how you deal with situations" . . . maybe for you, but chemical imbalances are real, and sometimes you need medication to "deal" with that.

I've been on zoloft, effexor, and lexapro for depression and anxiety. Of the 2 anxiety is what i have been going through now. I now chemical imbalances are real. Since my anxiety i've never been able to think clearly. Anxiety isnt something that i've had through my whole life. At a point i was more level headed and thought a lot more cleared then started over analyzing situations and blowing things up worse than they really are and etc... Things have been easier for me calming myself down and really trying to think things clearly and looking at the reality of situations. Point is, before she jumps on anything try to talk her into seeing a counselor. Something has triggered the anxiety that she has. Meds arent a permanet fix and more than likely it'll take more than one med to figure out what really works for her w/o the side effects.

it would be a tiny dose. thank all of you who are concerned but it is not a big deal. she went to see a counselor because i think she over reacts to things and needs to relax. she is probably not gonna take anything. she certainly doesn't need an antidepressant

Actually SSRIs are used as Anti-Anxiety meds for Panic Disorders. Everyone is chemically balanced or imbalanced differantly so its hard to say what will work for your girl. It will take a minimum of 2-4 weeks for SSRI meds to start working the way they are supposed to work. So if she does get a script, dont think things will change overnight, SSRI meds take time to start working.

Get her to learn self hypnosis, use a book a tape, a hypnotist. Its a great skill to learn. I found zoloft and every other anti depresant as well as the antisicotics (scitzofrania) meds bombed me like no other meds ive ever taken. I just couldnt function at all. There for i stoped taken them and learnt to self hypnotise, Admitadly im bloody hard to hypnotise but im off all that shit for last 5 years now. Other thing i found is ive been put on HRT/TRT and ive never felt so stable in my life. Maybe thats her problem.
Got no answers but just my experiences.
Good luck to u both.

with SSRI's, DRI's and NRI's its really a guessing game whats going to work. Individual neurochemistry is not discernable by symptoms, though it does give an idea of where to start.

with these drugs you will find that many people have VERY STRONG opinions both for and against them. they should be looked at as an addition to therapy and behavioural modification, taking them generally just makes the symptoms less apparent or more manageable, IDEALLY so that you can take the steps needed toward managing without them.

most people just take them, they feel at least somewhat better, and dont use the window that the drugs allow for introspection and behaviour changes that can alleviate the underlying neural distress/imbalance.

hey bruce, my wife was having the same problems. she would stress out over stuff that wasn't that big of a deal. at first i thought she was crazy cuz we all have stress. but she insisted that it was affecting her day to day activities. her doc put her on paxil which i think is like zoloft. it has helped her alot. i know they said it may cause libido problems but i haven't really noticed.

seems kinda weird all these women with anxiety problems. i mean, life is stressful and we all have problems but woman seem to go over the top. either way, hope she gets help with it and it doesn't affect your sex life :).

Zoloft supposedly treats both anxiety and depression, it is also like prozac, takes a while, 2-3 weeks to get in your system their website could tell you how long it stays in your system.

It gave me panic attacks, and I hated it.

if she can avoid A/D meds do so as they will screw up her sex drive.zoloft has ruined my wifes' sex drive and trying to come off that shit makes her feel
horrible and causes severe night sweats. just my 2ct

Hey bruce

Wife was on it for 3+ yrs & in her case it really helped level her off (anxiety, etc.) On the down side her libido was all but non-existent :worried: ...two other friends had the same issues with Zoloft & switched to Effexor & liked much better. Either way it will be a tough 4-6 weeks while she gets adjusted to the meds.

good luck

for 15 years i had total discipline to eat very close to a competition type diet.
Diet pills....eca started to give me anxiety, so i started to take Zoloft to calm me down. Zoloft took away all my diet discipline and turned me into a food maniac. Instead of being able to make healthy choices I was obsessed with pizza, ice cream,candy....
I put on 60 lbs of fat. Eating made me feel high. Life was great but I was very content to be alone and eating. I stopped zoloft and dont take ephedrine or eca....i have lost 40 lbs. It affects every one differently!

i took zoloft about 5 yrs ago and it was a bitch to get used to. i was really depressed due to a divorce so the 'numb' feeling i got after finally getting used to it was a releif. tossing a load was a bitch.... after about 6 mo. i couldnt stand the feeling anymore and stopped. i wasnt depressed at all after stopping and my doc told me that sometimes an event will make you very depressed and your body cant get you out of it on its own so the meds used for a short period do the trick. i was put on lexapro about a year ago because i realized that i was always irritated. almost went through divorce #2 due to anger issues. my doc wanted to put me on zoloft again but i told him what a hard time i had getting used to it before and he said that type of drug wasnt for me and gave me the lexapro which made me feel great immediatley and no sides at all. people do have chemical imbalances and whether its a short term problem or long term there are meds that can definatley help. i know i havnt felt as good as i do all the time now that i take the lexapro. sometimes ill run out and after a few days i notice myself starting to be an irritable prick again. just my 2 cc's.............

exactly, mac..

i used to have pretty bad social-anxiety until i went on zoloft at a measly dose of 50mg ed.. after 3 months, I felt like a different person, i was able to go out to parties and have fun without fraeking out beforehand.

it's been about 4 years now and I feel that I've made great gains in learning how to interact in those situations and realizing that my fear was irrational.. i am now on 12.5mg after being on 25mg for 4 weeks.. slowly coming off..

i tried just going 50mg -> 25mg ed for 5 days and stopping --- BAD IDEA!

also, it does take a toll on the libido -- sometimes its worth it (depending on your level of depression, anxiety, etc).. luckily i have my HRT to keep me in check :)

I also was able to bulk a lot more successfully because instead of being anxious and depressed, which caused me to lose my appetite, i was happy and ate whenever the fuck i wanted!
