wrist strap advice??

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on where to get good wrist straps for deadlifts. I'm doing the intermediate 5x5 right now and my grip has been failing on my last set (about 280 lbs or so).

I have a copy of Starting Strength and Rippetoe recommends the straps made out of nylon or seatbelt material b/c they are much more durable than the cotton kind. He also says NOT to get the kind with a loop sewed into one end, where the rest of the strap passes through the loop because it will just get tighter and tighter throughout the set. Basically just a plain strap.

Thing is, I've been looking around online and the only big site that seems to sell wrist straps is prowriststraps.com and they don't have the type I just mentioned. Any tips/suggestions on where to find them, or have any of you had success/bad experiences with other types of straps? Any input be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Oh, one more question, I use a forward grip for the first 2 sets just to try to train my grip a little, and alternate grips for the 3rd and 4th sets because I can't grip it otherwise. Is it possible to use straps while also using an alternate grip on the very last set? I don't think I've really seen anyone do that before, just curious. Sorry, I know this is a lot to ask all at once, thanks in advance.

i would use chalk and work on your grip. walk around with some 45's held between your finger tips for as long as you can, whenever you can.

Are you using chalk? If not, try chalk before you go to the straps. I think you'll be surprised.

ya, try not to use them if you dont have to. it helps your grip if you dont.

I got a pair of Harbinger from Dick's they arent bad at all. Ive used them for over 400 lb deads with no prob. But yeah your best bet is to not use straps.
