Would you kill this dog?

My son was bitten in the face a few weeks ago by a neighbors dog who lives a few houses down. The dog is sometimes chained up but that day she was loose and ran up as my son was bending over to pick up a basketball and just attacked him.He recieved three stitches above his eye.
The lady who lived there seemed concerned and came to the house to check on him and said that was the second time the dog bit a child so they are going to put it asleep.
A three days later the dog is running around loose again.

The police or animal control did nothing more than find out if she had its rabbies shots.

I'm thinking maybe tossing it a poison burger.

well.....there is a severe fine if caught

there is a term in legal speak called:

"First bite free"

Ya.. sadly enough that dog needs to be put to sleep.

Dogs are VERY intelligent animals.. when one bites like that.. there is something very wrong with it.

my sister got bit by a dog and all she got was a little scratch. She sued the person and got alittle over ten grand.my friend you have one hell of a law suit on your hands prepare to be rich.
then when it is all said and done put tylenol in a hamburg and feed it to the dog instant death

No. It's not the dog's fault, it's the dumbass owner's fault. Go to the police again and keep after them...they're there for a reason. If they still refuse to help, then contact an attorney and have said attorney contact both the police and the dog owner.

Given the fact that she's admitted her dog has done this before, you likely have decent grounds for a case against her. However, this isn't about trying to make a buck off her...it's about getting her to do the right thing so that no other kids get hurt.

exactly, i beleive that most states mandate that the dog be put to sleep if it has 2 attacks. You should check with animal control at the least, since she could have gotten the animal back just from a simple paperwork mistake or something.
It's worth the call and they will take care of it. Same thing happened with a neighbor's dog, but he was man enough to make sure that the dog got put down, as all owners should recognize that behavior and get it dealt with

Absolutely...let the situation blow over then a steak laced with strychnine will do the job.

SHOW ME THE MONEY

Stick with a large dark chocolate bar. If you poison it, you could get charged. If you use a chocolate bar, well, you just dropped your chocolate bar...sorry....

My hospital bill was over $500.I am going to send them a copy and ask for reimbursement and if the the bitch doesn't pay i think i'm going to kill that dog.

I don't think i would have a law suit because my son was on the neighbors property playing basketball with their son , he was invited by the boy but not by the parents though i'm not sure if it makes any difference.

prolly not the best thing to kill it yourself, however in that situation i would have a hard time restraining myself

That just means their homeowner's insurance will take over.

I've never heard dark chocolate and tylenol will kill dogs. That would be pretty easy to throw at the mutt.

I don't know about tylenol. But according to my vet a large dark chocolate bar will kill a 60lb dog dead. Apparently chocolate is poison to dogs.

Milk chocolate is not anywhere near as poison though, they just get the shits like crazy. Dark chocolate is much much more toxic.

Unless my vet is full of shit, which is possible.

How about some tylenol in the dark chocolate just to be sure. lol

Dang....the owner is the problem.

They let a dog run free that bites kids.

Surely you can find a better solution that just poisoning the dog?

This sounds like a scenario that is missing some facts.

Its not missing any facts.
They knew the dog had bit before.
The father let the dog loose while he was mowing in the back yard.
My son was playing basketball in the driveway on the side of the house ,as he bent over to pick up the ball the dog runs up and bites him in the face.He did not provoke the dog in any way.

what else do you need?

Well....letting the dog loose while he was mowing changes the perspective some.

The folks sound guilty of negligence or something but I sure as hell don't see how many of us could give sound advice on a legal problem.

Don't mind me....I've been all over the place lately.

Cracked(fractured) hip and pelvis make people ornerey. My life has had a lot of hell for almost a month.

I'd have already killed the dog seconds after biting my kid! Then when the owner told me it was the second time biting a KID, I would have laid out the owner!

Don't kill it...If they find it dead now from questinable causes, it will be Hatfields and McCoys in the neighborhood. Give her the medical bill and ask when she is going to put the dog down as she said she would.

If you get slack, tell her you don't want to go through the hassle of contacting the police again and dealing with litigation, but you will if forced to. Your kid shouldn't have to worry about a dog being in the neighborhood that bit him in the face.

After a year goes by, burn their fucking house down.

I was gonna flame you for being a softy.....right until your last sentence.

Now I have to rethink.

A lot of times it's the owner's fault if the dog is disobedient. Hard to say unless you knew the owner though.

If the owners would simply obey the leash laws, none of this would be a problem. This could be considered criminal negligence.

Wait, it has been 3 days and you don't know if the dog even had it's rabies shot or not? First thing to do is check that cleared up. If she can't provide proof, then that dog needs to be taken for testing. It ain't no fucking joke to play around with.

Second, if you do kill it. Don't do the dark chocolate routine. Be humane and just kill it. No need to cause a slow and painful death to the animal.

Its the theobromine that kills dogs.. if I remember correctly.. their kidneys cant process it and its metobalized into some kid of poison.

I didnt know dark choclate was higher in it though.

All you have to do is put antifreeze in a pan, when you see the dog out, put the antifreeze where he can get to it, he will die a few days after drinking it, and they cant charge you for poisoning the dog because you left it out by accident.

The notion of loading a 12-guage and ventilating the mutt might have a lot of appeal right now, but it'd obviously have some serious reprocussions. Go through the authorities....and if you get no help there, contact a lawyer and sue.

you didnt call the police when your son was bitten? threaten the owner that your're going to sue if the dog is not removed withen 24 hours

The hospital called the police and they made a report.Animal control checked the dogs record for rabbies shots and she could not show proof so they watched the dog for three days and determined it didn't have rabbies. Its been a two weeks now so i'm not worried about the risk of rabbies.Dogs only live a few days if they get rabbies.

I am going to ask the neighbors to pay for the hospital bill only.I'm not one of those people who jump at the chance to sue someone ......but if the bitch doesn't pay i will see a lawyer.

Thanks

Yeah do that. Then stab the dog in the eye.

yeah, exactly what I was thinking! Dogs like antifeeze because its sweet - they'll just lick it up. Put a pan on the side of your house and lure the dog over to drink it or something. - give it death's dinner - a steak with tylenol seasoning and antifreeze to wash it down

After reading this, I see how bad some of you are in need of the good Dr. How could you be so cruel as to give an animal a slow, torturous death when there is another alternative? Peace, Time to go workout.

if a dog bit one of your loved ones you wouldn't seek revenge??? I highly doubt that. I don't have kids but if i was put in that situation i'd probably play Doctor with it and give him an air injection!! I think giving a dog chocolate (dark or not) is a myth. I have pomeranians and one of them got smart for halloween and opened a huge bag of fun sized hershey bars, the creepy thing was the little bitch opened them nice and neat somehow and ate a good 20 of them and nothing happened to him. It was kinda awesome seeing a 5lbs dog hyper as hell though

Maybe if you guys stopped suing them all the time, they could stop worrying about that and not have to charge triple what they're worth

I'm sorry about your son, but instead of killing the dog people need to look at the owner who created this situation. The dog was kept chained up, so that leads me to believe that the owner never bothered to try to socialize him. That way he would have been use to other dogs and people, and less likely to bite someone. If you want to do something go bite the owner. :chomp:

as most posts have already said... target the owner... even the most apparently "vicious breeds" are loving NICE animals if brought up correctly... then again you find people who have made very well natured dogs into biting machines. b4L has a money point here.. Tell her you don't want her dog put to sleep but that you want people like her not to be allowed to have dogs in the first place. At that point, hand her the subpoena.
