With internet gambling, has the local bookie become extinct?

mostly rats and people trying to edge into Whitey's business in Southie. He'd dump their bodies under bridges, bury them in his backyard, dump them into the Charles River. The FBI found a body in his garage floor.

A dirty FBI agent tipped him off and he's been gone for the last 15 years. Probably in South America somewhere.

People talk about New Jersey and New York mobsters, but Brockton/Boston is bas ass

He ruled Boston bigtime. Cross him and you would get fucked up.

I love to read the 'true crime story' books. Is there a book out on this guy? Ever hear of "Air America"?

Growing up: Born in 1929 to James and Jean Bulger, James “Whitey”, Jr. grew up between two distinct sections of South Boston- the heavily Irish City Point and the more ethnically diverse Lower End. The Bulgers were among the first people to live in one of the first public housing projects in New England.

Wrong Crowd: While his brother, Billy went on to fame, James was getting a suspended sentence in juvenile court on larceny charges. Whitey spent more time in court than he did high school. By the time he was 27 he had died his hair and was robbing banks. James was one of the toughest kids ever to come out of the gangs around infamous Mercer Street. In 1956 he went to prison for 10 years.

+++++ By the early '70s, Bulger teamed up with mobster Stephen Flemmi and was climbing the ladder of Somerville's Winter Hill Gang, a well-known Irish gang in the Boston area. Bulger was seen as a ruthless killer

Even Ebert and Roeper drew comparisons between the Irish Mob and the Italian Mob, saying you dont hear of the Irish guys who are far more ruthless, b/c theyll kill you

You better love the Irish, the world didnt know what it was getting into when the British starved us to death forcing us to to look for new hope.
When you live on an island, ya gots to laugh with your brothern, its not like Africa or the middle east where you can be an arsehole to one another then move to Mongolia. On an Island that size, theyll eventually find ya. Weeded out the bastards who werent fun to hang with.

Also, some amount of natural playfulness in business affairs is inbred having to survive on an island. Islanders are more mellower naturally :bigkiss:

But we have the temper of a boiling kettle if crossed, mellowed by a quick return to logic and a pint of Guinness

LOL a pint of Guiness...that is funny.

I found this little story pertaining to the analysis results that support or refute each of the several assertions in the Irish stereotypes.

After the potato famine in 1847 the Irish had to face new battles as they emigrated to the United States. These immigrants had to fight their way past oppression and into main stream society. With their hearts, wits, and fists, they made America their own. “Over the decades violence often flared between Irish neighborhoods and those of other ethnic groups like the Italians or Jews. That violence was not, as Marxists always like to say, due to the conditions of capitalism or of poverty, because the other groups were equally poor but rarely fought with each other. Time and again the common correlate of the violence was the participation of the Irish.

We were by artists times in newspapers described as Monkeys and has always been anymous in certain ethnic cities against the Irish. But we conquered most prejudice. Became the police, ran all that shit, city officials, assumed positions of power. Opened pubs, ran the social scene. A true American success story the Irish.
Now were attacked and lumped in with the whites who oppressed us just the same. Silly, my family came over not too long ago. I aint pay one red nickel out of my paycheck for historical injustices to people who bitch too much. You are in THE US. Anyone can make it here, got the bull by the horns, and people still find a way to justify their own failures of their culture.

I once knocked out a coupla guys after I said the Irish are the best people on the planet, this after a night of drinking. All of a sudden they are saying Im racist. Im like, no, we are.

pay up front.

Whitey is on the FBI most wanted list. He killed a shitload of people in South Boston. A major mobbed up guy.

Do they have to pay the juice up front as well? Lay down 110 to win 100?

So you are racist?

Those guys deserved a punch for not recognizing greatness!!!

The Irish are still the best at cooking, drinking, humour, looks, in bed (from what I read in differendt books), work and beating the crap out of someone and lets not forget the hot accent. :p

wasn't he the one that was working with an FBI agent, the FBI agent was using him as a means to climb up the ranks, Whitey never gave him any real info and in return the FBI agent tipped him off on tons of busts, busted his enemies and let him get away with tons of illegal shit for the sake of the "investigation"?
