Embedding ain't in the Bible so I don't accept it and embedding would have made the post extraordinarily large. Smoke some icky...you won't even care how I post my video links.
The line between assault guns and tank destroyers was pretty amorphous. The Stug III had a high velocity dual purpose 7.5 cm gun. The US mounted a 105mm howitzer on the Sherman and Germany later deployed the Sturmpanzer IV with a 150mm gun making them more infantry support vehicles. The Elephant had some serious design flaws. Over 10,500 Stug III and variants were constructed by the end of the war. In contrast 8,500 Panzer IV's were constructed by 1945 and around 6,000 Panthers.
The US Army had to re-learn a lot of things we figured out the hard way in WWII. The M1 120mm cannon isn't sufficient for breaching reinforced concrete. The Russian army brought there assault gun fleet out of mothballs for urban fighting in Chechnya.
