will swimming make me look bulky?

I used to swim in a squad when I was in high school..and was a lot bigger then. I did however not have great diet.

I am thinking of starting again...what results do you guys get from swimming?

And 'swimmers ear' and gross looking hair and dry and flaky skin (to name just a few)......

However it's fine as a low-impact form of cardio as long as you don't have probs with the above!

I'm not convinced that swimming makes you 'bulky'. I just think that those that do BEST at swimming tend to have a longer torso and higher %bf (for biomechanical and floatation reasons) which makes them look less than ripped/athletic. After all, there seems to be no advantage to being ultra lean in the water so why bother (just ask the next seal or whale you bump into LOL).

I swam competitively for years and my job requires me being an excellent swimmer. You won't get bulky muscles from it but it's GREAT cardio. It's the one thing I've ever done where i could stuff my face and never gain a pound.

I don't think it's for the muscles though... Well, it might make it more of a workout. The girls I know who have extremely low bodyfat and are very muscular, sink like rocks and have a hard time treading water.

:)

I swam all through college. If you can master the art of butterfly, I promise you one of the widest backs you will ever see. If I can get my pics up you'll see for yourself.
