Will Rowing (on water) destroy gains?

This summer I want to do something fun, outdoors, and something where I can meet people. I found a rowing club in the city I live in. I'm considering joining as a recreational rower on a drop in basis.

Over the past 4 years I've gone from 195 lbs to 230 lbs. In the last year I've done a couple cycles to help me along. I essentially do very little to no cardio. I do a HIIT and some jogging when I'm cutting.

My concern is that if I do this rowing for the summer (let's say 2 or three days a week) that I will lose my hard and long earned gains.

If I just consume more calories should I be able to retain the muscle? Will the cortisol from the medium/high intensity cardio of rowing make my muscle melt like ice cream on a cali sidewalk?

What the hell is good about having muscle if you can't do anything with it? Why is everyone so scared of cardio?

I'll tell you why. Coz most people hate cardio and look for any reason to avoid it. So they convince themselves that they cannot do cardio or they'll lose their "gains". Then they preach that as gospel to everyone and everyone believes it. Just like if they miss one of their 10 daily meals they will wither away to nothing.

Go have fun. Eat. Live.

I was in the best shape of my life when running 5K 4 days a week, 10K twice a week, and 20K once a month. I worked out in the gym 5 days a week and ate about 3500 calories per day. I was ripped and had excellent definition.

I'd think there shouldn't be much of an issue. You're even throwing in some resistance traing with the cardio. As long as your nutrition intake meets your needs you should be fine.

I think It would help you develop stronger back muscles actually. I say go for it.

who cares if you burn a little muscle in the process, it will come back.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I'd have to agree with you maxxreps that I've fallen into the belief that a little cardio will make me lose everything I've worked for.

I'm going to go for it. I'll post a thread on my experiences after summer, with pics and dexa scan before and after.

It will destroy your gains if you forget to eat for a few months. Other than that your fine
