Yes, the wife was tested and found to be on the cusp of the low end for testosterone, barely in the acceptable range. This was done by one of those anti-aging clinics, and although test was prescribed for her, she has a hard time with this kind of medicine. She is a psysician and is a skeptic with respect to hormone replacement thearpy.

Stats: Age 38/ 2 kids/ work out mildly/ eating habbits improving

Oh, and by the way, I didn't need to run lab work to find low test leves, I'ts obvious to the spouse.

My thought is if I can find an oral, as opposed to an injectable, she may be able to trump that stigma she associates with needles; and I can have a sex life with my wife.

Don't get me wrong, she always sacrifices herself when needed but I would really like to be the recipient of some passion once again.

She is also seeing a psychiatrists this week to possibly put her on some meds for depression. WOW, if that isn't the nail in my sex coffin.

I think there is a thread somewhere around here that addresses low test levels in women and some of the symptoms included moddiness, lack of libido and depression. I know that while on ox, my own mood improves greatly and I have heard other women say the same thing.

Good luck and have your wife be careful with anti-Ds. Some of them can actually reduce libido even further. Besides if the low test levels are the cause of the low mood, she wont need anti-Ds.

Ultimately this is her decision and as a physician I am sure she is a big enough girl to make a wise one. As has already been said depression goes along with low test levels but if she chooses not to treat the problem then there isn't much you can do about it. She may want to try some Androgel as it is a topical testosterone and Ox may very well help her. First she has to be interested in solving her libido problems.

If she just wants the test for libido as opposed to gaining mass, I'd look into topical preparations since they bypass the liver and are very mild but usually effective for libido. I'm not sure if Androgel that Temple mentioned is prescription or OTC, but it's worth a shot.

Personally if it were me, I'd have a full hormone screen to measure test/free test (free test is the important one), estrogen, progesterone, DHEA, and SHBG. Just as test could be low, other hormones could be too high.

If any levels are out of wack, my choice would be to use a compounding pharmacy, as they can mix up the exact dose you need, and they use bio-identical hormones rather than commercial preparations. (e.g. Premarin, a commercial estrogen is made from pregnant mare urine, and many women get bad side effects, as horse estrogen is biologically different from human estrogen.)

May also want to test thyroid, as low libido is often a symptom as well.

Are low progesterone levels a problem or were they tested? I'm about her age and slathering on the progesterone cream daily - and libido is improving. Pregnenolone and progesterone are both precursors for test for women. I have been using both preg. orally & progesterone USP cream and libido in coming back.

Pregnenolone is also GREAT for depression. I have FMS, which includes a weekly depressive wave (as well as the muscle pain). I've been taking pregnenolone for about 3 weeks and haven't had a down day yet. I am consistantly in a cheerful and happy mood, and that hasn't happened for THIS long in over a year or so. It's cheap and non-prescription. Please do some internet research on it and give it some consideration. My S.O. has been taking it too, and is much less anxious than he can usually get.
