It's common knowledge that you need more than your maintanince calories to gain muscle.
I started a job unloading trucks, and I guarantee that during this time I ate well below maintinance, I lost a good amount of fat BUT my forearms got noticably bigger and more vascular.
Can someone explain?

someone has to know
 
1] Because newbies get bigger just by looking at their bis

2] Because less fat = more definition = looks like you're bigger

1. Who said I was a "newbie?" I am not. (I have lifted for a couple years prior to this, and my forearms never got this big)
2. I agree, but like I said, they did get bigger

ur funny tho...
 
Maybe you lost a lot of mass in the lower body due to your low caloric intake, got bigger arms still the overall result is a lower weight

probably true, but i still built mass, didn't i?
 
hey, i just quit a job doing 10 hr shifts of heavy lifting. i was looking to get emo skinny, so i didn't eat a lot. even did the peanut butter diet! i gained muscle, and im not the only one who noticed it. not that it answers your question, but i hear ya.

no shit man, i dont think we need as much cals as everyone says to build muscle..on another note, i think what happened to u was real odd
