Why we need to eat every 3 hours, for my stubborn sister!

Ladies (and gents), could you PLEASE tell my sister why the current diet she is on, which insists that she eat 3 highly calorically restricted meals NO LESS than 5 hours apart per day, is going to destroy what's left of her metabolism, and ensure that any weight loss she experiences will magically disappear as soon as she starts eating like a normal person again, with interest????

And while you're about it, could you mention how lifting heavy weights and eating clean foods every 2-3 hours, as a LIFESTYLE choice, rather than a temporary fix, will give her a strong, healthy, and enviable physique, devoid of the large lumpy muscles seen on pro female bodybuilders?

I would REALLY appreciate firm, gentle, practical advice for a woman I love dearly and whose mental and physical health I value rather more greatly than she apparently does!

I'm going to e-mail this URL to her, and ask her to frequent our boards when she has time.

Yoroshiku onegaishimasu, as we say in Japan.

I think the simple answer is that the body needs fuel to run right? Well, feed it. If you restrict calories, not only is not going to get the wide variety of nutrients, enzymes, etc. it needs to run, it will begin to think that it is in a starvation environment and will slow down to accommodate that situation. Remember that living organisms or designed to respond to different situations in order to survive. You can try to force a particular diet on your body for a short period of time and get what appears to be "results"... but if it is a prolonged restriction of the things the body needs to run optimally, it will rebel and try adjust to compensate for that situation. The idea is to feed it optimally (e.g. the body will process protein optimally every 2-3 hours) and provide physical stress (i.e. training) such that it will have a stimulus to respond to optimally.

How's that for starters. Maybe ask her why she has decided to run a diet of restricted calories with 5 hours between meals?

This is such a loaded question. Why lift heavy, eat often, etc...? Just LOOK at us. I hate to sound arrogant, but please. This is the only lifestyle where mastering bodyfat is crucial. If we don't know how to do it, no one does.

:)

ARROGANT??! Naaaah ;)

Yeah just show her a pic of Spatts and say...."see that?...wanna look like that...then ya gotta eat OFTEN."

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I'm not proud of this but I yelled in cyber space *sniff*
But I think I made my point ;)

are you dieting for mom or you? if it's her then learn to be fat. give up.
for you? read on-

need proof that 5 or 6 meals won't make you fat? look at spatterson aka "moo" does she look fat?

or check out some of the female asses on this site ... do they look fat? guess what they eat 5 or more times a day.
I stand by my words 5+ meals and hard work gets and *moo ass* or a *3V ass* etc. :)

I think its a hard sell for someone to look at pix and be told "this is what they do", esp for someone who still has to overcome the myths around eating. For some, just giving up those beliefs is hard enough. I was talking to a guy this weekend about the 5-6 meals /day - and then explaining good carbs, etc. He was totally into until he said he wasnt' really into oatmeal for breakfast. So I suggested some eggs & brown rice. He made this face like "RICE FOR BREAKFAST??? ARE U NUTS!?????" So there's just a lot of concepts that have to be created or broken just to make the basics "believable".

Again, I would challenge you to ask your sister on what she is basing this "diet" she has planned - sometimes you have to walk people thru the logic of it. If you can't get her to accept your logic, perhaps you could get her to see the flaw(s) in HER logic first....

I don't know if I'd use the term moo-ass, though in trying to convince someone on a restricted calorie diet to eat more, LOL!

But a pic of our favorite "moo ass" might do wonders! Is that pic still up somewhere, Spatts? (I do agree with sassy69 generally about pics not being effective, but that particular pic is like...a revelation, lol.)

Wyst

I guess the pics motivate me more than anything. I learn by visual example- and magazines (IMO) aren't real :)

I've been working out for years, putting in hours in the gym, the pool, the track...you name it. But I always always always ate wrong...onley 2-3 small meals a day, not nearly enough protein...or I just flat out starved myself. THEN i started eating right...5-6x/day. THAT is when I started seeing results.

hiya steelweaver's sistuh :)

i used to starve myself 2 lose weight 2, but when i finally started eating small meals every 2 - 3 hours is when i was able to maintain my weight and have a much more stable diet.

here's my reasons ::

* u don't get cranky from starvation
* ur metabolism works better
* u have energy to exercise
* ur never over-hungry or over-full (makes it easier not to cheat on a diet)
* u have much more control over ur diet (hunger can only be ignored 4 so long before u have to give in - and it's usually to food that's bad 4 u)
* u learn to plan ahead 4 all those meals (again giving u more control over what u put in ur bod)
* just look at the people who do it!!!

good luck to ya :D

Aw, spat :) - indeed, I have made great changes in my physique just in the last year or so, and she's seen the pics with her own eyes, every 6 weeks. The problem is ... the word "bodybuilder". I've made it very clear all along that I want to be a bodybuilder, and bodybuilder = HUGE lumpy transvestite muscles in most women's minds, including sis's. I'm hoping my upcoming cutting pics will change that, LOL - like I could ever look like that!

I think she may slowly be coming round, but an extra boost from the women here couldn't go astray. It's difficult to argue with results, though - she's losing 2kg a week - like 1 water, .75 muscle and 0.25 fat!

I don't think I can show her your pics spats - you're a bit too muscly! :D I'm going to send her Sweethunny's thread, though.

Sassy - great points, as usual. And thanks everyone else. Please feel free to add more anytime. My sister's stubborn, but she's smart.
