why is solid protein preferable over whey?

Just curious, why is it preferable to eat solid protein over whey other than for cost reasons? I mean, even if the whey is absorbed super quick, so what?

Whey protein is absorbed very fast (in some cases, depending on heating time of the product, about 1hr). Thus, solid food like chicken usually takes longer to digest and absorb giving you the ability to have a positive nitrogen balance and steady release of Amino Acids.

so does this mean that if I have 3-4 protein skakes throughout the day combined with a few meals of solid protein, I will get poor results at building muscle?

ok, combining alot of the current threads....Mr.X i have a question. you say whole food is better......ok, for a college student with no time or money how do i get real food? you say no tuna or chicken in can because of sodium.....then what? no people are saying no powder.....

Yes. Whey enters the blood stream very fast, but also leaves very fast. That is the reason that I think a protein combination such as that made by Met-RX metamyosin is superior to whey. Alternatively you can build you own forumla on proteinfactory. A combination of Whey Isolate, Calcium Casienate, Egg protein, Milk Protein Isolate and glutamine peptides will give the best of both worlds: Fast absorption for very high amino level concentrations along with slow absorption for sustained lower levels of aminos in the bloodstream for even 3 hours. Whey byiself is over hyped, most bros just take a protein shake after workout and think they are done with 'good' protein, then they wait 2 hours for next meal which is also bad, as Mr.X noted, aminos from whey are out very fast, you're left with hours of catabolism.

I would assume buying it, but it doesn't seem like it's an option

you say no tuna or chicken in can because of sodium.....then what? no people are saying no powder..... I think you're misreading a bit, you asked about WHEY protein, which is not one of the best examples of meal replacements. I would suggest going to www.proteinfactory.com they have VERY good priced protein, get yourself a 40%egg/30%caseinate/20%whey/10%flax mix, this mix is a good way to replac food

Mr.X

thanks for the reply!
no buying it is not an option because of time and money.

i used to do all whey for my protein so i will be happy to get this protein mix. however wont the flax be toxic if it is refined to a powder or do they grind up seeds. and either way wouldnt it be hard to ensure that you are getting 10% of flax in each scoop??? since the other 90% is protein??
