why do you think you are better than animals?

decem said:

ok.. but what's to say that the animals haven't thought of that..

what's to say that they don't know something about invention and technology that we don't?

perhaps they prefer their lives as is... perhaps they simply prefer to live as mother nature intended..

does that mean that we really are "superior" to them.. in all aspects.. to include ethics and morality?

I can't answer these questions. What's to say that animals don't travel to and from the moon when we're all asleep at night?

Animals may have invented the internet, but they will never get any credit for it until they learn to COMMUNICATE with humans. Communication goes a long way to achieving respect and equality.

maybe humans should learn to communicate with them.. not vice versa..

or maybe they've been trying to communicate with humans since we started walking upright.. only we've failed to listen..

Didn't they pick a whale's sounds/vocalizations to be sent into outer space????

Anyway, work with dolphins, you will feel really stupid. They are SMART!!

My dogs can cummunicate with me.

They know when we are going to the park.:)

They also know when we are going to the vet or the groomers.

Okay, maybe "communicate" was a bad choice of words. Maybe i should have said "speak our language." Decem, I see what you're saying, but it's human nature to kill, waste, eat, consume, etc. I don't think that will change - ever.

If humans are so smart, why can't we speak their language...

Study dolphin communication- makes our language pretty basic.

OR----

Watch children with autism who have NEVER spoken in their life... Put them in the water with dolphins and see who is speaking to whom.

In some science textbooks, intelligence is defined as the ability to adapt to change. I think humans posess a greater ability to adapt to change than most animals.

But Starfish, you and big4life have gone on to further my point about communication. Name some animals that are generally regarded by humans as creatures worth protecting and even spending time with - dolphins, dogs, chimps. You see, humans are more likely to endear these creatures and go out of their way to ensure their safety because they seem have a basic understanding of each other. In other words, we can communicate with them. I guarantee you that if a tuna learned to talk, Starkist would go out of business.

Decem, humans don't HAVE to learn to communicate. They are at the top of the chain. Did you see Battlefield Earth? That movie kind of goes towards proving my point.

I think ALL animals are worth protecting... They are ALL obviously here for a reason... Maybe not buying computers and talking at a bar BUT they may do something that gives you the ability to live...

Mess with one species and you will eventually mess with your own. Mother Nature is powerful and she will find a way, she always has. People are stupid to think we cannot live here without respecting other forms of life.

Look at sharks- they were here LONG before we ever were. Talk about prehistoric... They are pure, efficient, living machines. They have barely evolved in thousands of years...:alien: :alien:

I agree with you starfish. I was just answering Decem's question on why things are the way they are. But starfish you should ask yourself some questions if you really believe with conviction what you are saying.

Are you a vegetarian? If so, how do we know that vegetables aren't "alive" and in need of preservation?

Do you own a pet? If so, what do you feed him? I'll be willing to bet 1,000 to 1 that the products you feed him are made from dead animals.

Do you drink mikl or eat ice cream? What right do we have to rob cows of their milk?

Do you spray for roaches and other insects? After all, the roaches probably lived there before you did. And roaches haven't evolved much either.

Whether you like it or not, I bet you do things EVERY day that show blatant disregard for other forms of life. And I challenge you to argue that you don't.

Starfish, you and these sharks scare me. I keep thinking that if you get mad at me I could become fish food.:chomp: :chomp:

But as far as talking to other species goes. I think that just like humans have different languages, animals communicate in ways that we might not understand, but they still talk.

If that's all you got out of my last post then I don't think it would do us any good to discuss this further.

We will work out a trade, say a basket of peaches and you take me swimming with the sharks.

Oh yeah, you don't get the peaches until I am away from the sharks. ;) :worried:

What I got out of your last post was killing animals shows blatent disregard for life???

No, I'm not a vegetarian... I eat a lot of chicken and fish...

I don't like dairy for numerous reasons... Personally, the only thing meant to drink cow's milk are baby cows... People drink it.. I do not.

I have worked with animals of ALL types.... I have fed them I know what they eat.. I agree that something must die so something must live- but that is Mother Nature... It keeps everything in balance. When people disrespect that, I have a problem. Look at what animals eat what... It keeps things in check and in harmony...

I don't really want pesticides around my home and food.. Ladybugs rule!
