Why do some people fear aspartame?

I don't think aspartame kicks that many people out of ketosis. Check the citric acid content first as it will kick many people out of ketosis. Try drinking diet dr. pepper instead of other diet drinks and this should fix the problem.

No it's not aspirin!, it's nutra-sweet and it's in so many products that basic logic would tell you that if it was dangerous people would be dropping like flies. Love crystal lite in cutting cycles!!!

um, it's been proven to cause cancer in lab rats. yes, P R O V E N. Unfortunately, these rats were being fed a disproportionate amount of aspartame... humans would never consume anywhere close to the percentages these rats were consuming. They are also rats so there is no 100% conclusivity as to its effects on humans. In addition, NO people would not be dropping like flies. The widespread usage of aspartame along with many other sweeteners is somewhat new. Wait till you are 80 then you can validate your comment. Very few people from the baby boomer gen. used artificial sweeteners throughout childhood. Along with the trend of decreased sugar intake, several factors, including the introduction of better sugar substitutes, will increase artificial sweetener usage in the future. After saying all this, no, I personally don't see a problem with using it... I'm also betting that they will have a cure for cancer developed by the time I am 50 :P

Yup. CA has a place in the krebs cycle that messes w/ketosis.

MRP's with Aspartame

Lee Labrada's Lean Body doesn't have the Aspartame in it...A lot of manufacturers are taking it out of their products. On the box it will read " Aspartame Free "

You are thining of Saccrine (sp?). The stuff that is in sweet n' low, or pink packets.

Aspartame is dangerous to those who have PKU, a genetic condition that prevents proper metabolism of aspartame, causing there to be extreme neurotoxicity. If you had this condition, you'd know it.

For the rest of us, it is safe.

Way to spread bad information.

It's PKU for short, the actual disease name is Phenylketonuria, so if you have it, you are called a phenlyketonuric.

It's tested for (but not always caught/treated) in newborn babies. If you had it, chances are you'd know it.

Phenylalanine & Aspartame are 2 different chemicals. Phenylalanine is safe to those who dont have PKU, but Aspartame can still be harmful, but typically only in large dosages.

Babyfaced, go to your doc and tell him whats up so he can run some tests...SERIOUSLY. Tell him about aspartame related headaches.

Sucralose (brand name: Splenda) is already a better art. sweetener than aspartame, just not as well accepted yet. Expect to see more and more products contain sucralose. Diet V8 splash and other drinks have it I believe, and you can buy it by the box.
