Why do most women wear white on their wedding day?

I know its tradition, but why?

It gets dirty fast, its common and boring, plus most women aren't virgins when they get married (white=pure supposedly)

I for one, think most wedding gowns are horrid. They look uncomfortable, and I personally don't think they are pretty. Not to mention they are very pricey and you will only wear it once.

Anyone know how and why this came to be?

Its a tradition...the color white is a symbol of purity and what not...back in the day, peeps didn't crawl in the sack til marriage, that is why they wear white.

yep, thats what I thought, so I wonder why that hasn't faded out yet...

I'm not getting married any time soon, if ever, but if I feel inclined to wear a different color, I may.

What's wrong with tradition? I mean we've soiled just about every tradition possible, can't we have one last tradition that we can enjoy.

People generally don't like to break traditions and i would imagine there is probably family pressure to follow the tradition...otherwise, i think there would be a more diverse array of colors in wedding dresses...just my .02

Nothing wrong with it, and of course a bride would get slashed for wearing anything but white. But I thought a white dress was a symbol of purity. Guess its just another meaningless tradition we have.

IT ACTUALLY STANDS FOR PURITY AND VIRGINITY YOU WEAR WHITE TO SHOW YOU ARE A VIRGIN AND CLEAN, NOWA DAYS I DOUBT ANYONE CAN REALLY HAVE MEANING TO THE WHITE DRESS SO IT IS NOW JUST TRADITION. I KNOW YOU SHOULD WEAR RED JEN THATS YOUR COLOR YOU BAD GIRL.
